Pleasant was born about 1817 in South Carolina. In 1860 he worked as a merchant in Shiloh. His son Benjamin Franklin Pleasant served in the Confederate Army and then for many years as the Union Parish Sheriff. ================================================================================= ================================================================================= Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book F, pp. 320 - 326 ================================================================================= ================================================================================= To the Honorable the Judge of the Eleventh Judicial District Court in and for the parish of Union, Louisiana. The petition of Mrs. Rosanna Pleasants, a resident of said Parish and State respectfully represents that Ruffin G. Pleasants late of said Parish departed this life sometime during the year 1865 in the State of Texas leaving an estate consisting of personal property also a widow in community and several minor heirs. Petitioner represents that no steps have been taken by any person to administer said Estate that it is necessary that an administration should be had to pay the debts due and to settle the succession. She therefore prays that an Inventory and Appraisement may be had and that after due proceedings, she may be appointed Administratrix of said Estate and for such other orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief &c. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union Let the prayer of the within application be granted and it is ordered and decreed that the petition of Mrs. Rosanna Pleasants to be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of R. G. Pleasants and be advertised according to law and it is further ordered that William C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public be and he is hereby authorized and empowered to make an inventory and appraisement of all the property belonging to the said Estate and due return thereof make to this office. Moore as securities are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable J. D. Watkins, Judge of the Eleventh Judicial District Court in and for Union parish, La. for the time being or to his successors in office in the just and firm sum of One thousand $1000.00 Dollars to the true and full payment thereof we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, administrators and legal representatives firmly and in solido by these presents. The condition of the obligation is such that whereas the said Rosanna Pleasants has been duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Administrator of the Estate of Ruffin G. Pleasants, Deceased and she has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore if the said Rosanna Pleasants shall faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on her as Administratrix of the Estate of [blank] and shall render to the Judge of said Court a true and correct account of all her acts and doings in and about said Estate and shall when legally required so to do pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property belonging to the said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same. Pleasants Deceased and has given bond with good security and has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore, the said Rosanna Pleasants if hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the acts appertaining to the said appointment according to law. The petition of Mrs. Rosanna Pleasants, a resident of your said Parish and State and Administratrix of the Estate of R. G. Pleasants, decd. late of said Parish, respectfully represents unto your honorable court that in order to pay the debt of the said Estate it is necessary to sell the property belonging to said Estate. Wherefore petitioner prays your Honorable Court for an order of sale of all the property belonging to the said Estate and that she, petitioner, be authorized to make the said sale in accordance with Articles 990 & 991 of the Code of Practice. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District court Parish of Union Let the prayer of the petitioner be granted and it is hereby ordered that all the property both real and personal belonging to the Estate of R. G. Pleasants, Decd. be sold in accordance with Articles 990 & 991 of the Code of Practice. And it is further ordered that Mrs. Rosanna Pleasants the Admrx. of the said Estate make the said sale and due return thereof make to this office. Petition of Rosanna Pleasants, Administratrix of the Estate of R. G. Pleasants, Deceased, a resident of the Parish and State aforesaid respectfully represents unto your honor that he following described tract or parcel of land lying and being in the parish of Claiborne and State aforesaid belongs to the Estate of R. G. Pleasants, Deceased and not being placed upon the Inventory of said Estate. To wit: the South half of south west quarter Section 26 T. No. 22 R 4West and the North half of the North West Quarter of Section 35 Township 22 Range 4 West. Wherefore Petitioner prays your Honor to cause an order to be issued to the Recorder of the Parish of Claiborne to cause an Inventory and appraisement made of said land and make corrections thereof the to the Clerk of the Court of the parish of Union and in duly bounden [unreadable] &c. Reid, Clerk of the District Court in and for the parish of union authorizing and requiring me to make an Inventory and Appraisement of all the property situated in the Parish of Claiborne. In and belonging to the Succession of R. G. Pleasant, late of the Parish of Union, deceased. I, George W. Beck, Recorder in and for said parish and State and Ex Officio Notary Public duly commissioned and sworn after having appointed B. D. Harrison and B. K. Jinks males of lawful age and residence to assist me in making said Inventory and Appraisement proceeded by the assistance of said appraisal to make said Inventory and Appraisement as follows to wit: A tract of land situated in said Parish known and described as follows to wit: the South half of South quarter of Section twenty six (26) Township twenty two (22) of Range Four (4) West, and the North half of North West quarter of Section thirty five (35) township twenty two Range four (4) West containing one hundred and sixty acres more or less valued at one dollar per acre $160.00 There being no other property known or shown to us situated in said parish and belonging to said succession this Inventory and Appraisement is now closed amounting in all to the sum of one hundred and sixty dollars. In proof thereof, I have caused the said Parties to sign this in my office in the town of Homer and in the presence of the assisting lawful witnesses on the day and date just above written.
