Ramsey, Deceased, of Union Parish Louisiana Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book A-3, pp. 17 - 20 ======================================================================================= ======================================================================================= NOTE: James A. Ramsey was a Farmerville attorney. He had served as the local district attorney and strongly supported Nichols for Louisiana's governor in the 1887 - 1888 gubernatorial campaign. He had a long-standing feud with judge and newspaperman, James E. Trimble, that exploded in November 1887 due to a squabble over some election issue. Trimble and Ramsey met in Farmerville on 19 December 1887, and their heated words soon drew a large crowd in front of Stein's store. Trimble and several in the crowd drew their guns and fired shots, with both Trimble and Ramsey dying from gunshot wounds. The coroner's jury found that Judge Trimble shot Ramsey, but Ramsey's gun had not been fired. Two other local residents (one of them the brother-in-law of Ramsey) were charged with Trimble's murder, but they were acquitted in 1892. ======================================================================================= ======================================================================================= Succession of James A.
