This succession book was typed in the early 1800s from a large number of loose probate/succession papers. Ratcliff's brother-in-law, Benjamin Harrison, lived in Union Parish in 1840, and Ratcliff may himself have lived in what became Union Parish in 1839. ======================================================================================= ======================================================================================= Succession of M. Ratcliff Account Rendered Jemima Ratcliff, wife of Benjamin Harrison, in account current with the Estate of Michajah Ratcliff, late of the Parish of Ouachita, decd. as rendered by James Fort Muse, her instituted Attorney in fact on the second day of May A.D. 1827. Aldander No. 38 $75.46 __225.46 Amount $3253.99 Balance of said Estate hand of accountant $3371.01 From a careful examination of the papers and affairs of the Estate of Micajah Ratcliff, late of the Parish of Ouachita, decd., the above account with the accompanying vouchers, number from one to thirty eight, inclusive, exhibits, a correct settlement as far as the same has been administered. Leaving a balance of said Estate, in the hands of this accountant, (and sole heir at law, of said Micajah deceased) the sum of three thousand three hundred and seventy one dollars, and one cent. And from the evidences of payments made for said Estate, as appears on the exhibits above numbered from one to thirty eight, Benjamin Harrison, husband of this accountant, while acting as her constituted Attorney in fact, paid in his individual character, the sum of one hundred and fourteen dollars, fifty one and one fourth cents, as per exhibits, numbers, fourteen, seventeen, twenty five, and thirty five. And that the sum of three thousand two hundred and fifty six dollars forty nine and three fourth cents, was paid by this account and sole heir at law of said Estate in the due course of Administration. She prays that the above account may be audited and allowed. And she hereby released from all further liability, the securities of Micajah Ratcliff, her said Brother & Benjamin Harrison her said husband, for the purchase money for the property bought by them at the sale of the Estate of her said father Jesse Ratcliff, hereby substituting herself in their stead, and binding herself to such creditors, of said Estate (if any now remain) and releasing them from all liability to her as heir at law, of said Estates of Jesse & Micajah Ratcliff, retaining her lien, uninterrupted, against and on the real Estate & slaves so sold, as aforesaid, and against and on her said husband Benjamin Harrison, and his present and future property—until her rights and claims derived from said Estate of her father Jessee and her brother Micajah Ratcliff are met and secured to her. James Fort Muse Attorney in fact for Jemima Harrison May 12th 1827 Whereas the heir of Micajah Ratcliff, decd., filed the within account of her Administration of the Succession of the said decedent on the 2nd day of May instant, and whereas public notice having been given according to law for all persons to show cause if any they might have why the said account should not be allowed. And no person having made opposition thereto it is ordered that the said account be allowed as prayed for and the same be filed and recorded. Oliver J.
