He had settled in Farmerville by 1850 and worked as an attorney. He became one of the parish's most prominent citizens in the 1850s and 1860s. During the War Between the States, he served as the commander of the Confederate Post of Farmerville. Little is known about his duties, but Reganburg was apparently responsible (perhaps in overall command of) the Union Parish Home Guard and for generally keeping the peace. The piney hills of north Louisiana became a refuge for escaped slaves and conscript evaders, and this caused some unrest in the region. Hillory H. Ham (1828-1889) worked under Reganburg during this period, forcing men to fulfill their military obligations, collecting conscripts, etc. ================================================================================== ================================================================================== ================================================================================== ================================================================================== Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book G, pp. 567 - 587 ================================================================================== ================================================================================== To the Honorable the Judge of the Parish Court of Union Parish, State of Louisiana. The bond of the Curator to be cancelled. Done, read and signed on this October 17th 1871 in open court. T. B. Tompkins Parish Judge To the Honorable the Judge of the Parish Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana. The petition of Wm. D. M. Bruton, a resident of the parish and State above written with respect represents that the Estate of Henry Regenburg, Decd. now in course of administration in said parish is justly and legally indebted to him in the sum of Twenty five dollars for medical attention furnished said Regenburg by petitioner in October 1868 during the last illness of said decd. as will fully appear by reference to an account duly probated and annexed hereto. Petitioner avers that he is a privileged Curator of the said Estate, that said indebtedness is due and unpaid, although amicable demand has been made of the Curator David Arent by a presentation of said claim for acceptance that said D. Arent, Curator refusing to accept his said claim has filed a Final Account of his administration of said Estate. Premises considered, petitioner respectfully opposes the homologation of the final account filed by David Arent as Curator of the Estate of Henry Regenburg, Decd. and prays that due notice of these proceedings be ordered on said Curator and on final hearing that petitioner be decreed by your Honorable court as a privileged creditor of the Estate of H. Regenburg, Decd. and a decree of your Honorable Court amending said Final account in such manner as to include his said claim as a privileged creditor. He prays for all other necessary orders and decrees and for general & equitable relief &c. Mayes & Lewis Attys. at Law To the Honorable the Judge of the District Court in and for the Parish of union, State of Louisiana. The petition of James E. Trimble, a resident of your said Parish and State and Attorney in fact for the heirs of the Estate of Henry Regenburg, decd. to wit: August Regenburg, Consadine Regenburg, Theodora Regenburg and Hellen Cometers of Lassia [sic] would respectfully represent that David Arent, Curator of the said Estate of Henry Regenburg, decd. has filed his final account and Tableau of Distribution in his aforesaid capacity. Petitioner prays to file this the opposition of the heirs in his capacity as aforesaid to the final account and Tableau of Distribution as rendered by the said David Arent for the following reasons: 1st Petitioner respectfully represents that in said account of D. Arent, Curator credits a claimed for an account against H. H. Ham for the sum of Forty eight & 23/100 dollars and also an account against M. T. Simmons for thirty five dollars alleging that said claim as worthless. Petitioner avers that through negligence the said Creditor has allowed the property of M. T. Simmons to be secured beyond the purchaser of the proper court when and when said claim could have been called in law. He further avers that at the time the property of said Estate of H. Regenburg, decd. passed into the hands of the said Arent, Curator. The claim against H. H. Ham was good and collectable. 2nd It is further objected to the aforesaid account and tableau that in the claims to be paid by preference then opposition D. Arent, Medical and funeral expenses seventy eight dollars which said item petitioner as aforesaid decrees to be either just as an account or claim against said Estate or a preference claims and further there appears the following charge as a preference claim to wit to be paid by preference. Receipt for deposit in gold, March 10, 1862 favor D. Arent $100.00, Ditto April 23rd 1862 $200.00, U. S. Int. Rev. Tax $2.82. Petitioner as aforesaid avers that of said claims ever had an existence that they were paid (unreadable) of the receipt and in the hands of the curator constitute any value or just claim against said Estate. That as the Curator of the Estate of H. Rebenburg, Decd. the said Arent is the proper Custodian of all property belonging to said Estate and if therefore said receipt have an existence, they are the property, or papers of said Estate. The presentation of three and four years is specially pleaded in value to the duration of the above described receipts and your petitioner as aforesaid further objects to the account of D. Arent for two hundred and twenty & 00/100 dollars. Also to the account of D. Stein for Six hundred and one & 43/100 dollars. Also to the account of H. O. Glasson for one hundred and thirty six & 08/100 dollars. Also to the account of T. T. Barton for four hundred and twenty one & 87/100 dollars and further to above specified accounts pleads the perception of three and four years in (unreadable) 4th Your petitioner as aforesaid would further represent that the said D. Arent Curator of said Estate has knowingly permitted and allowed H. C. Glasson to retain and keep a certain D(?) mare which belonged to said Estate of H. Regenburg, decd. said mare it is avered was worth two hundred and fifty dollars. Your petitioner as aforesaid respectfully asks that the said amount or value of said mare be charged to the said D. Arent, Curator. 5th Your petitioner as aforesaid would respectfully represent that David rent on or about the 8th day of October AD 1868 of the money of H. Regenburg, decd. took one hundred and twenty dollars in gold which said money in no way appears upon his account or in any way charged to himself as should D. Arent. I is further alleged that of the monies of H. Regenburg, decd. that on or about the 8th day of October AD 1868 the said D. Arent took about eighteen hundred and seventy five dollars United States currency which said amount that never been charged to said Arent in no way appears on the final account filed. The premises considered, your petitioner as aforesaid prays that upon a final trial, there be judgment connecting and advising the final account in the presentation herein before mentioned for all orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief &c.
