Reppond served as a private in Company H, 31st Regiment Louisiana Infantry. He died at Jackson, Mississippi on 29 November 1862 of pneumonia, according to his military record. Notice that his wife states he died on December 1st, but his military record is more likely to be accurate. ================================================================================= To the Honorable the Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana. The petition of Elizabeth T. Cabrea, widow of Batteace T. Reppond, late of said parish respectfully represents that her said husband B. T. Reppond lately departed this life on or about the 1st December AD 1862, away from his home in the Military Service of the Confederate States leaving her a widow and one minor child Sarah E. Reppond the issue of the marriage between herself and the said deceased and an estate consisting of land, stock, horses &c. Petitioner represents that being the widow in community and Natural Tutrix to her said child. She is entitled to the administration and therefore prays that an inventory and appraisement may be had according to law and that on due proceedings having been made, she may be appointed Administratrix of said estate and Natural Tutrix to her said child and for such other orders and decrees in the premises as may be necessary. H. Regenburg, Atty. State of Louisiana 11th District Court Parish of Union It is ordered and decreed that the within application be advertised according to law. It is further ordered that W. C. Smith, Parish Recorder &c be and he is hereby appointed to make an inventory and appraisement of all the property belonging to said Estate and due return make without delay. Smith, Parish Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this the 13th day of January AD 1863, in pursuance of an order of the Honorable 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish and State aforesaid, I, William C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for the Parish and Sate aforesaid duly commissioned and qualified, repaired to the late residence of Batteace Reppond, Decd. late of the Parish of Union, Louisiana the purpose of making an Inventory and Appraisement of all the Property both real and personal, rights and credits belonging to the Estate and Succession of the said Batteace Reppond, Decd. and being assisted by marshal Day and W. T. Porter, good and lawful citizens of the Parish of Union, who being duly appointed and sworn by me as appraisers and in the presence of lawful and competent witnesses made said inventory and appraisement as follows to wit: 200 acres of land numbered as follows, the NE ¼ of NE ¼ Sec. 15, the NE ½ of SE ¼ of Sec. 10 and NW ¼ of NE ¼ of Sec. 15, the SE ¼ of SE ¼ of Sec. No 10 Township No. 22 West of Range 3, East containing in the aggregate 201 82/100 acres apprd. @ $3 per acre $605.46 1 Brown Pony Mare apprd. @ 75.00 1 Brown Pony year old horse colt apprd. @ 40.00 7 Head stock cattle apprd. @ $10 per head 70.00 30 Head more or less 2 year old meat hogs apprd. @ $20 per head 600.00 10 head stock hogs apprd. @ $10 per head 100.00 5 sows, 3 pigs, 1 boar apprd. @ 50.00 Lot farming utensils apprd. @ 10.00 12 common chairs apprd. @ 12.00 1 rifle gun apprd. @ 8.00 1 leather bound trunk apprd. @ 5.00 Johnson and Edwards note for twenty five and 95/100 dollars due April 9th 1861 less payment of $10 May 8th 1962 Bal. 15.35 Receipts on the Confederate States for one double barrel gun valued @ 25.00 Cash in hand Confederate Bills ___40.00 $1635.31 Having completed the foregoing inventory and appraisement as above set forth, I have on this 13th day of January 1863 closed the same. In testimony whereof, I have caused said appraisers to sign their names hereto with me the said Recorder and in the presence of Isaac Cole and O. P. Smith, Parish Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Know all men by these presents that we, Frances E. Reppond, as principle and R. K. Love as her security are held and firmly bound unto W. B. Egan, Judge of the 11th District Court and Parish and State aforesaid in the time being or to his successors in office in the just and full sum of two thousand and forty three and 81/100 dollars to the true and faithful payment thereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, assigns and legal representatives firmly by these presents. Dated Farmerville, January 24th AD 1863. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the said Frances E. Reppond has been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of Batteace Reppond, Decd. and she has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore if the said Frances E. Reppond shall faithfully and impartially discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on her is said Administration capacity and shall faithfully account to the Judge of said Court for all monies or other property received from this or any other state and shall render a true and faithful account to the Judge of said Court of all his acts and doings in and about said estate and whenever legally required so to do to pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property of whatever nature to the proper person or persons to receive the same, then this obligation to be null and void otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue against the principal and security. Cabera, Administratrix of the Estate of Batteace T. Reppond, Decd. respectfully represents that the personal property of said estate is subject to loose, waste and deterioration and expensive to keep. She therefore prays that an order may issue authorizing her to sell the said property on a credi9t of 12 months and for such other orders in the premises as may be necessary and proper. H. It is further ordered that the Administratrix of the Estate of Batteace T. Reppond, Decd. be authorized to make the said sale terms on twelve months credit, purchasers giving their notes with approved security, said sale to be on the 16th day of February 1863.
