To the Honorable the Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana. The petitioner Mary T. Taylor, a widow resident of your said parish respectfully represents that her husband James C. Reynolds, late of your said parish departed this life at his residence on or about the 12th day of August AD 1865 intestate leaving an Estate consisting of personal property, rights and credits, also leaving herself a widow in community and three heirs, the legitimate issue of the marriage between deceased and petitioner who are all minors to wit: James H. Reynolds, Thomas Reynolds and Mary E. Reynolds. Petitioner represents that as partner in community and natural Tutrix to her said children. She is entitled to the administration of the said estate and prays that an Inventory and Appraisement may be made according to law and that after due proceedings had, she may be appointed Administratrix of said estate and also appointed and confirmed Natural Tutrix of her said minor children and for such other orders as the case requires. Reynolds to be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of James C. Reynolds, Decd. be advertised according to law. It is further ordered that William C. Smith, Parish Recorder &c be and he is hereby authorized to make an Inventory and Appraisement of all the property belonging to the said Estate and due return thereof make to this office. Smith, Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered on this the 31st day of October AD One thousand eight hundred and sixty five pursuant to an order of the Honorable 11th Judicial District Court and for the Parish of Union and State of Louisiana and to me William C. Smith, Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said parish directed, I repaired to the late residence of James C. Reynolds in said Parish and being assisted by Allen J. Futch and Jeremiah Dumas, males of age and citizens of the parish of Union who being duly appointed and sworn by me, Recorder, as appraisers proceeded to make an inventory and appraisement of all the property rights and credits belonging to the Estate of James C. Reynolds apprd. @ ___100.00 580.00 Having completed the foregoing inventory and appraisement, I have on this the 31st day of October AD 1865 closed the same, in testimony whereof I have caused said appraisers to sign their names hereto in the presence of Richard M. Gilbert and John Odom, male witnesses of lawful age and domicile who have signed with said appraisers and me Recorder on this the day and date above written, October 31st 1865. ATTEST: A. J. Futch R. Reynolds be and she is hereby duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Administratrix of the Estate of James C. Reynolds, Decd. and that upon her giving bond with good security and taking the oath prescribed by law that letters of administration do issue to her. It is also ordered that the said Mary T. Reynolds be and she is hereby appointed and confirmed as Natural Tutrix of her following minor children to wit: James H. Reynolds, Thomas Reynolds and Mary E. Reynolds and that upon her complying with the law that letters of Natural Tutorship do issue. It is further ordered and decreed that Richard M. Gilbert be and he is hereby appointed Under Tutor of the above mentioned minors and that upon his taking the oath prescribed by law that letters as such do issue to him. Reynolds, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on me as Administratrix of the Estate of James C. Lewis Clerk, District Court Succession of James C. Reynolds, Decd. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union Whereas, Mary T. Reynolds has been this day duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Administratrix of the Estate of James C. Reynolds, Decd. and she has been given bond with good security and has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore the said Mary T. Reynolds is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all their acts appertaining to the said appointment according to law. Given under my hand and seal of office on this 9th day of November AD 1865. Thos. C. Lewis Clerk, District Court State of Louisiana Parish of Union Know all men by these presents that we Mary T. Reynolds as principal and John Taylor as her security are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable J. D. Watkins, Judge of the 11th Judicial District court in and for Union parish, La. for the time being or to his successors in office in the just and fully sum of nine hundred dollars $900.00 to the true and faithful payment whereof well and truly to be made we bind ourselves, our heirs, assigns and legal representatives firmly by these presents. Dated at Farmerville, La. this 6th day of November Ad 1865. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounden Mary T. Reynolds has been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of James C. Reynolds, Decd. and she has taken that oath prescribed by law. Now therefore if the said Mary T. Reynolds shall faithfully and impartially discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on her as Administratrix of the Estate and shall render to the Judge of said Court a true and faithful account of all her acts and doings in and about said estate and shall whenever legally required so to do, pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property of whatever belonging to the said estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same then this obligation to be null and void, otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue against the principal and her said security. Reynolds State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union Whereas, Richard M. Gilbert has been duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Under Tutor to the following named minor heirs of the Estate of James C. Reynolds and he has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore the said Richard M. Gilbert is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the duties appertaining to said appointment according to law. Lewis, Clerk, District Court To the Honorable the Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, La. The petition of Mary T. Taylor, a resident of said Parish, Administratrix of the Estate of James C. Reynolds, Decd. late of said Parish duly qualified &c respectfully represents that the live stock of said estate and the corn &c is subject to waste and destruction and expensive to manage and that it is of no profitable use to the estate. She therefore pays that an order may issue from your Honorable court directing the same to be sold together with such other personal property as may be useless and expensive and that she as Administratrix be authorized to make the sale and for such other orders and decrees in the premises as the case may require. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union The premises considered, it is ordered and decreed that the prayer of the above petitioner be granted and that the live stock, corn &c together with such other personal property as may be useless belonging to the Estate of James C. Reynolds, Decd. be sold in accordance with Article 990 and 991 of the Code of Practice. It is further ordered that Mrs. Mary t. Reynolds the Administratrix of said Estate be and she is hereby authorized to make said sale and due return thereof make according to law. Done and signed in office on this the 2nd day of January AD 1866, Thos. C. Lewis Clerk, District court State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that in pursuance to an order from the Honorable 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish aforesaid, I Mary T. Reynolds, Administratix of the Estate of James C. Reynolds, Decd. after due advertisement by posting written advertisement in three public places in the Parish for more than ten days. There being no newspaper published in the Parish on this the 15th day of January Ad 1866 did proceed to sell at public auction for cash after crying in a loud voice the terms of sale to the highest bidder all the personal property belonging to the Estate of James C. Reynolds. Whereupon the following named person became purchaser of the articles annexed to their name respectfully to wit: Mary T. Reynolds, widow of Decd. bot. One bay horse 56.00 One grey horse 36.00 One hundred bushels corn 87.50 One hundred bushels corn 50.00 One hundred bushels corn 100.00 2 thousand pounds fodder 15.00 Head cattle @ $5 per head 45.00 2 yoke oxen and wagon 115.00 1 grind stone 2.00 Farming utensils 11.75 Sundries 2.75 1 pair steelyards 3.00 Now therefore by virtue of the authority vested in me as Administratrix of said Estate, I hereby transfer and deliver to said purchaser the property purchased. The terms of sale being complied with, in testimony whereof, I hereto sign my name officially in the presence of R. M. Gilbert and W. T. bird, lawful witnesses on this the day and date above written.
