The petition of Nancy Roark, a resident of your said parish with respect represents unto your Honor that her husband Benjamin Roark, late of said parish, departed this life intestate on or about the 1st day of August AD 1843 leaving your Petitioner his widow and the following minor children issue by our marriage to wit: Sarah Louisa Roark, aged about 4 years and Amanda Franklin Roark, aged about 7 months; besides a considerable estate real and personal, rights and credits, lands and tenements. Wherefore your petitioner prays your Honor to cause an inventory and appraisement to be made and that your petitioner be appointed Administratrix of her deceased husband’s estate and that she be confirmed as Natural Tutrix of her said minors and that James R. Guice be appointed Under tutor and for all such other and further relief as the nature of the case may require as in duty bound your Petitioner will ever pray &c. Nancy P. I have on this 13th day of October 1843 at my office proceeded to take an inventory and appraisement of said decedent’s estate and for the purpose as aforesaid have appointed Thomas VanHook and Fielding Miller residence and freeholders of said parish to appraise said estate and after being duly sworn by me the said Judge have proceeded as follows together with the undersigned witnesses and judge. Inventory Appraisement One hundred and twenty acres of land, it being the same tract of land said decedent acquired by deceased from William Parker apprd. @ $500.00 One lot lying in the Town of Farmerville 15.00 Crop of corn in the field 62.00 Crop of cotton in the field 54.00 One colt, a bay 12.00 One bay mare 40.00 One small wagon 8.00 One rifle gun 12.00 One shot gun 8.00 Farming utensils ____5.00 $716.00 The inventory amounting to seven hundred and sixteen dollars. In testimony whereof the parties, appraisers have signed their names together with the undersigned witnesses and widow who gave in the property and me Judge on this 13th day of October AD 1843. John Taylor, Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Union Nancy Roark as principal and William Parker her security acknowledges to owe and be indebted unto John Taylor, Probate Judge of said Parish and his successors in office for the time being in the sum of eight hundred and ninety five dollars for the payment whereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, Administrators and assigns firmly by these presents dated this 13th day of October AD 1843. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounden Nancy Roark has been appointed Administratrix of the Estate of Benjamin Roark, Deceased. Now therefore if the said Nancy Roark shall well and perform and discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on her in her capacity as aforesaid agreeably to law and shall under a true and faithful account of the acts and doings when required so to do, by legally authority, then and in that [blank] the above obligation to be null and void.
