Rossiter Act of Emancipation: Filed August 11, 1869 Be it remembered that on this the Eleventh day of August A.D. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty nine, before me William C. Smith, Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said Parish duly commissioned & qualified personally came and appeared George Rossiter, a resident of the Parish of Union, who declares and say that it is his wish to have emancipated, and do hereby emancipate and make free to act as his own agent as one that has attained the full age of majority, his son George Marion Rossiter aged (17) Seventeen years, and the issue of a legal marriage with Eliza Ann Blankenship, now deceased. The said George M. Rossiter, his son to act and do for himself, free from all parental restraint; hereby releasing him from the obligations which are legally imposed upon a minor; and he further yields his full consent to his being constituted a free agent, to act for himself in all matters of law and otherwise; and in transactions he hereby delegates to him the privilege of one who has arrived to the complete age of majority from this day until he shall have arrived to the full age of majority. In testimony whereof the said George Rossiter has hereunto signed his name in presence of Wm. W. Poer and Wm. D. Johnson, lawful and competent witnesses called for the purpose who also sign with said appearers and me Recorder and Notary on this the day, month and year above set forth. ATTEST: W. W.
