Scott, Deceased To the Honorable Probate Judge in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana. The petition of Sarah C. Scott, alias Hill, resident of your said Parish and State with respect represents unto your Honor that her Husband late of the State of Tennessee departed this live on or about the year 1838 in Tennessee leaving your Petitioner his widow and the following named and aged children of their marriage to wit: William C. Scott, aged about seven years; John Wiley Scott, aged about 5 years and Mary Susan Scott aged about 18 months besides a considerable Estate of Property real and personal. Your petitioner sheweth that she was appointed guardian of said heirs or minor children in Tennessee and that on or about the 7th October 1838 she intermarried with John G. Hill and that he was after the said intermarriage appointed guardian to said named children. She further sheweth that in the year 1842 about March of the same year she with her said husband and the said minor heirs moved to your said State and Parish. Wherefore your Petitioner prays your Honor to cause an inventory and appraisement to be made of said decedents Estate and that your Honor appoint her Administratrix and that she be qualified as Natural Tutrix of her minor children as aforesaid and that an Under Tutor be appointed and your petitioner further prays your Honor to cause a family meeting convoked of the relations of said minors or in default of relations, near neighbors to advise and recommend who shall be appointed Tutor to said minors and for such other and further reliefs as may be property necessary as your Petitioner ever pays. Sate of Louisiana Probate Court Parish of Union Let the prayer of the Petitioner be granted and it is further ordered that an inventory and appraisement be made and that she be appointed Administratrix upon giving bond and security and taking the oath conditioned as the law directs and qualified as Natural Tutor and Willy B. Norsworthy Under Tutor and it is further ordered that a family meeting be convoked by consent, composed of Michael T. Ellis, N. M. Bryan, Isaiah T. Henderson, W. M. Lawrence and Malcomb McFarland, M. T. Ellis, a relative of the said minors. N. W. Bryan, Isaiah T. Henderson, William M. Lawrence and Malcomb McFarland neighbors to said minors to wit in the Town of Farmerville by consent on this the 4th day of December 1843. Done and signed in chambers on this the 4th day of December 1843. John Taylor Probate Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on the fourth day of December 1843 in pursuance of an order of the Honorable Probate Court in and for said Parish and State to me directed, I have caused Michael T. Ellis, N. W. Bryan, Isaiah T. Henderson, William M. Lawrence, Malcomb McFarland, Michael T. Ellis, the nearest relations, the others near neighbors to the minors William C. Scott, John W. Scott and Mary Susan Scott, Minor children of Joseph W. Scott, deceased by his marriage with Susan C. Scott, his wife, now the wife of John G. Hill, met by consent to admin and recommend who should be appointed Tutor to said Minor, their said mother having intermarried in the State of Tennessee and removed to this state with the aforesaid minors and bringing their property with her. The said persons composing the family meeting after due deliberation and mature reflection do advise and recommend who should be appointed to said minors to assure and recommend that Sarah C. Scott, alias Hill, the mother of said minors be appointed tutor and that her present husband John G. Hill be Co-Tutor according to law and who after being duly sworn agree as above. John Taylor Parish Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this 4th day of December AD 1843, that I John Taylor, Parish Judge and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for the aforesaid parish having received official information of the death of Joseph W. Scott, who departed this life intestate in the State of Tennessee on or about the year 1838 and leaving his widow, Sarah C. Scott and following minor children issue by his marriage with said Sarah (to wit) William C. Scott, John W. Scott, and Mary Susan Scott besides leaving a considerable Estate; real and personal, rights and credits and has since intermarried with on John G. Hill and has moved together with the children and property from the said State of Tennessee to the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana in pursuance of an order and judgment of the Honorable Court of Probates and for this purpose of making an Inventory and Appraisement of said Estate, I have at the town of Farmerville and for the purpose aforesaid, I have appointed William M. Lawrence and Needham M. Bryan, residents and freeholders of said Parish appraisers to appraise all the property comprising the Estate and Succession of said Decedent and whom after being well and duly sworn by the said Judge, well and truly to do and perform all and singular the matters and things herein according to law have proceeded as follows together with me the said Judge and Sarah C. Scott, alias Hill, who gave in the property and undersigned witnesses to wit: One Negro man aged about 21 years apprd. @ $550.00 The inventory amounting to Five hundred and fifty dollars. In testimony whereof said parties appraisers have signed their names together with Sarah C. Ellis their securities acknowledge to owe and be indebted unto John Taylor, Judge of Probates in and for said Parish and his successors in office for the time being in the sum of eight hundred and eighty dollars and fifty cents to the payment whereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns firmly by these presents dated this the 4th day of December AD 1843. The conditions of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounden Sarah C. Scott, alias Hill has been confirmed as Natural Tutrix and her husband John G. Hill, Co Tutor to the minor heirs of Joseph W. Scott, Deceased. Now therefore if they, the said Sarah C. Hill an John G. Hill shall well and truly perform and discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on them in their capacity as aforesaid agreeable to law, then and in that case the above obligation to be null and void or otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. Scott, Deceased and confirmed as Natural Tutrix of her minor children issue by her marriage with said deceased to wit: William C. Scott, John W. Scott and Mary Susan Scott and her husband John C. Hill, Co Tutor and having given bond and security and taken the oath as prescribed by law. Now therefore they are hereby authorized and fully empowered to discharge and perform all and singular the duties appertaining to the said appointments according to law. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name and affixed my seal of office on this the 4th day of December AD 1843. Scott, John Wiley Scott and Mary Susan Scott, minor children of Joseph W. Scott and having taken the oath as prescribed by law.
