Thomas was born about 1817 in South Carolina. He owned a large farm near Marion. He enlisted on 18 December 1862 at Vicksburg, Mississippi as a private in Company I, 31st Louisiana Infantry Regiment. When the muster roll was completed in late February 1863, he was sick in camp at Vicksburg. He apparently died that spring, for he was not among those captured when the Confederate Army surrendered at Vicksburg. ================================================================================= ================================================================================= To the Honorable Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court for Union Parish, Louisiana. The petition of Elizabeth A. E. Thomas, a resident of your State and parish respectfully represents unto your Honor that her husband Allen W. Thomas, late of same residence departed this life sometime during the year 1863 leaving a surviving spouse, your petitioner and several minor heirs to wit; Martha A., John L., Louis A., Scisily C. and two that are majors namely Emeline E., the wife of E. A. Cook and Maria J. all of whom are the issue of the marriage between your petitioner and your said husband, Allen W. Thomas, decd., also a small estate consisting of real and personal property. Petitioner represents that all the property belonging to the said Estate is community and that there are some debts existing against said Estate that is necessary that an administrator be appointed to take charge of said Estate and that a Tutor be appointed to represent the minors. That petitioner as surviving spouse and partner in Community with said deceased and Natural Tutrix to her said minors. She is entitled to the Administration by law and entitled to be confirmed as natural Tutrix to her children. Wherefore, Petitioner prays your honor that W. C. Smith, Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public be ordered to make an Inventory of the property belonging to the said Estate and after legal advertisement, petitioner be duly appointed Administratrix of said succession and be confirmed as Natural Tutrix to said minors. For all other orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief. R. W. Futch, Atty. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District court Parish of Union It is ordered and decreed that the within application of Elizabeth A. E. Thomas to be appointed Administratrix of Allen W. Thomas, Decd. be advertised according to Law. It is further ordered that William C. Smith, Recorder & Ex Officio be and he is hereby authorized and empowered to make an Inventory and Appraisement of all the property belonging to the said Estate of A. W. Thomas, Decd. and due return thereof make to this office according to Law. Done and signed in office this 12th day of October AD 1866. J. W. It is further ordered that she be and is hereby appointed Administratrix of the Estate and Natural Tutrix to the following minor children to wit: Martha A., John L., Louis A. and Cisily C. Thomas is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the acts appertaining to the said appointment according to law. Thomas as principal and Edward Branson Y John R. Parker as securities are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable J. D. Watkins, Judge of the Eleventh Judicial Court in and for Union Parish, Louisiana for the time being or to his successors in office in the just and full sum of three thousand and nineteen dollars and forty five cents to the true and full payment thereof we bind ourselves, our heirs, assigns, executors, administrators and legal representatives firmly and in solido by these presents. Dated at Farmerville, Louisiana this 26th day of October AD 1866. The condition of this obligation is such that whereas the said Elizabeth A. E. Thomas has been duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Administrator of the Estate of Allen W. Thomas, decd. and has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore, if the said Elizabeth A. E. Thomas shall faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on her as Administratrix of the Estate and shall render to the Judge of said court a true and correct account of all her acts and doings in and about said Estate and shall when legally required so to do pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property belonging to the Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same. Smith Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said parish directed authorizing me to make an Inventory and appraisement of the property, rights and credits situated in the Parish of Union belonging to the Estate of Allen W. Thomas, Deceased, late of said Parish and being assisted by Benjamin Ford and Edward Bronson, lawful citizens of said Parish who being duly appointed and sworn by me as appraisers proceeded to make said Inventory and Appraisement as herein after set forth at my office in the Town of Farmerville. Also NE ¼ of S@ ¼, S@ ¼ of S@ ¼ Sec. 20 W ½ of NW ¼ Sec. 29 SE ¼ of NE ¼ of SE ¼ of NW ¼ Sec. 20 Tow 21 Range 2 East containing ni all three hundred and twenty 10/100 acres. Also SE ¼ of NW ¼ Sec. 27 Town 21 N Range 3 East containing 40 & 15/100 acres containing in the aggregate four hundred and forty and 43/100 acres valued @ one dollar per acres $440.43 Cash on hand 200.00 Cash recd. for cattle sole 515.00 William Owens Receipt for two notes on John Riddle, Junior Riddle and Oratha G. Childs for four hundred dollars each.
