Walker, Deceased, of Union Parish Louisiana Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book A, pp. 189 – 196 ================================================================================== ================================================================================== To the Honorable John Taylor, Judge of Probates of the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana The petition of Harriette Ann Jones, a resident of the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana with respect represents unto your Honor that her husband Stansel L. Walker died about the first of January 1839 leaving some property consisting in Slaves and one child then an infant the issue of said Walker and your petitioner. Your petitioner represents that she has since married James E. Jones, now living and residing with your petitioner in the Parish of Union and that they now have in their possession three Negro slaves a part of the original property left by said Walker at his decease one half of which belongs to Mary Walker the daughter of your petitioner and said Stansel L. Walker, Decd. Your petitioner having inherited the other half according to laws of Mississippi where your petitioner and her late husband then resided. Your petitioner prays that an appraisement of said property may be made by experts duly appointed by your Honor and that she be duly appointed Tutrix to her minor daughter Mary and her present husband James E. Jones be appointed Co-Tutor and that they be duly confirmed in the care and administrations of said property and that an Under Tutor be appointed and for general relief &c. State of Louisiana Probate Court Parish of Union Let the prayer of the within petitioner be granted and it is ordered that an inventory and appraisement be made and a family meeting be assembled and after deliberations and advice that a Tutors be appointed and that after giving bond and taking as prescribed by law that letters issue. John Taylor Parish Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this 11th day of May AD 1841, that I, John Taylor, Parish Judge and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said Parish and State in pursuance of a petition to me directed and for the purpose therein set forth, I have repaired to the house of James E. Jones, the husband of the petitioner Harriett Ann Walker, alias the wife of the said Jones who represents that her first husband Stansel L. Walker departed this life on or about the first of January 1839 in the State of Mississippi leaving your petitioner and one child minor issue by his marriage with your petitioner. Also leaving some property consisting of slaves and that she has in possession three Negroes, a part of said decedent’s Estate community property of your petitioner and her minor child Mary Walker and for the purpose of making an inventory and appraisement of said property of said Estate. I have repaired to the residence of the said J. E. Jones and for the purpose as aforesaid, I have appointed Moses Pierson and Powhatan Boatright, residents and free holders of said Parish appraisers to appraise said property and after being duly sworn by me the said Judge well and truly to do all and singular the matters and things herein according to law have proceeded as follows together with the said Judge and Harriett Ann Jones who give in the property and undersigned witnesses and parties to wit: Inventory Appraisement Lucy and her two children Cindy and Hanah Lucy a woman aged about 35 years, Sindy 3 years, Hanah aged about 4 months appd. 750.00 Amounting to [blank] In testimony whereof said parties appraisers have signed their names together with Harriett Ann Jones who gave in the property and Martin Hendrick and R. F. Rabun witnesses hereto required of lawful age who also signs with the parties and me Judge the date above. In faith whereof I have signed my name and affixed my seal of Office. TEST: M. John Taylor Parish Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that I, John Taylor, parish Judge and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said parish and State has on this 11th day of May Ad 1841 nominated and appointed the following persons domiciliated in said Parish relatives and friends to Mary Walker minor heir of Stensel L. Walker, Deceased, to wit: David Hendrick, the Grandfather of said minors, Martin Hendrick, an Uncle, Moses Pearson, Powhatan Boatright and Green Kelly, friends and neighbors of said minors after being duly sworn by me the said Judge to deliberate on the interest of said minor concur in opinion as follows: We the undersigned recommend and concur in opinion that Harriett Ann Jones to be a suitable person to be appointed Tutrix and Martin Hendrick be appointed Under Tutor for said minor. Kelley Powhatan (his X mark) Boatright State of Louisiana Probate Court Parish of Union Whereas Harriett Ann Walker alias Jones has been appointed Tutor to the minor heir of Stansel L. Walker, Deceased to wit: Mary Walker and having given Bond and Security and taken the oath as prescribed by law. Now therefore she is hereby authorized and fully empowered to discharge and perform all and singular the duties appertaining to the said appointment according to law. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name and affixed my seal of office on this 11th day of May AD 1841. John Taylor Parish Judge State of Louisiana Court of Probates Parish of Union Know all men by these presents that we Harriett Ann Jones as principal and Martin Hendrick and David Hendrick her securities of the State of Louisiana are held and firmly bound unto John Taylor, Judge of the Court of Probates in and for the Parish of Union or to his successors in office in the sum of nine hundred and twenty seven Dollars current money of the United States of America which we promise to pay him or his successors in office for the faithful performance of which we bind ourselves, and each of us our and each of our heirs, executors and administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents renouncing all benefit or division or discussion whatsoever. Sealed with our seals this Eleventh day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty one. The condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bounden Harriett Jones curator of the Estate of the late Stansel L. Walker deceased does well and truly according to law administer the same and further does make and render a true just and perfect account of her actions and doings when thereunto lawfully required, either by the aforesaid Judge or his successors in office agreeable to Law, or by the heirs of the said deceased or their lawful attorney or attornies, or by the duly appointed and authorized executor or executors of the last will and testament of said deceased, should it hereafter appear that any such will or testament was by the said deceased made then this obligation to be null and void or else to remain in full force and virtue.
