Wells, Deceased. To the Honorable John Taylor, Parish Judge and Ex Officio Judge of the Court of Probates in and for the Parish of Union. Your are hereby specially authorized and empowered by an order and decree of the Court of Probates of this Parish to proceed to take an inventory and cause an appraisement to be made of one undivided half in and to the West half of the South West quarter of Section No. fourteen (14) and the East half of Section No. twenty four (24) in Township No. twenty one of range No. two (2) West containing four hundred acres and the West half of section No. twenty six (26) the North East quarter of Section No. twenty seven (27) and the East half of Section twenty eight and the East half of the West half of Section No. twenty eight in Township No. twenty of Range No. three West containing thirteen hundred and sixty acres and the undivided fourth interest in and to the West half of Section No. seventeen and the West half of the South East quarter of Section No. seventeen in Township No. nineteen of Range one West containing four hundred acres, lands situated in your Parish belonging to said succession of William E. Wells, late of the State of Mississippi, Deceased. And when the same shall have been so inventoried and appraised, you will proceed to the sale thereof at Public Auction after legal notice for cash. And of your doings herein return make to the office of the undersigned in the Town of Minden without delay. Given under my hand and the seal of said Court at Minden this 15th November AD 1842. Geo. State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on the 4th day of January AD 1843 that I John Taylor, parish Judge and Ex Officio Judge of Probates in and for the Parish of Union in pursuance of a commission to me directed from the Honorable George W. Peets, Parish Judge of the Parish of Claiborne have proceeded to inventory and cause an appraisement to be made of all the property in my Parish of Union composing the vacant succession of Wm. E. Wells, deceased, late of the State of Mississippi and also proceeded to appoint James H. Seal and Thos. VanHook as appraisers to appraise said Estate after their being duly sworn according to law by me Judge Inventory One undivided half in and to the West half of the South West Quarters of Section No. (14) fourteen and the East half of Section No. 24 in Township No. Twenty one of Range two (2) West containing four hundred acres and the West half of Section No. twenty six (26) the North East quarters of Section No. (27) twenty seven and the East half of Section No. twenty eight and the West half of the West half of Section No. Twenty eight in Township No. twenty of Range No. 3 West containing thirteen hundred and sixty acres and the undivided fourth interest in and to the West half of Section No. Seventeen and the West half of the South East quarters of Section No. sixteen in Township No. nineteen of Range one West containing fourteen hundred acres estimated and appraised at $1.25 per acre. Seven hundred and eighty acres the amount belonging to the succession which is the amount of the half and one fourth uninventoried in the inventory making the total amount $975.00. Wm. M. John Taylor, Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this 10th day of January One thousand eight hundred and forty three, I, John Taylor, Parish Judge and Ex Officio auctioneer in and for the parish of Union and State of Louisiana duly commissioned and sworn, in pursuance of a commission to me directed by the Honorable the Parish Judge of the Parish of Claiborne and also in pursuance of written advertisements signed and dated by me the said Judge and Ex Officio Auctioneer on the seventh day of December And 1843 and upon the same day posted upon the Courthouse door in the town of Farmerville and in the Parish aforesaid and three other public places in the aforesaid Parish besides leaving them inserted four times in the Ouachita Courier a weekly paper printed at Monroe in the Parish of Ouachita proceeded at the courthouse in the Town of Farmerville in the Parish and State aforesaid to offer and expose for sale at public auction the hereinafter described pieces, parcels or tracts of land lying and being situated in said parish of Union and belonging to the vacant succession of William E. Wells, late of the County of Claiborne in the State of Mississippi deceased. The land described and designated as follows to wit: One undivided half in and to the west half of the south west quarter of Section No. 14 and the east half of section No. 24 in Township No. 21 of Range No. 2 West containing Four hundred acres, and the west half of section No. 26 the northeast quarter of section No. 27 and the east half of section No. 28 and the east half of the west half of section No. 28 in township No. twenty (20) of Range 3 West containing thirteen hundred and sixty acres and the undivided fourth interest in and to the west half of section No. seventeen and the west half of the south east quarter of section No. 17 in Township No. 19 of Range No. one west containing four hundred acres. And having cried said land in an audible and distinct voice a sufficient length of time, Mr. Alfred Ingraham surviving assigner of the President and director of the Grand Gulf Railroad and Banking company became purchaser of the undivided half and undivided fourth part of said land as afore described the interest of said William E. Wells for the sum of Nine Hundred and seventy five dollars cash in hand paid and he the said Alfred Ingraham being the highest and last bidder the above described lands was adjudicated to said Alfred Ingraham surviving assigner of the President and Directors of the Grand Gulf Rail Road and Banking Company to have and to hold to the said Alfred Ingraham, his heirs, Executors, administrators and assigns forever. Thus done and signed in presence of Thomas VanHook and Philip May witnesses who have signed together with me the aforesaid Parish Judge and Ex Officio Auctioneer on this day and year first above mentioned.
