He lived on a large farm in southeastern Union Parish near Downsville in 1860. ================================================================================== ================================================================================== To the Honorable the Judge of the Eleventh Judicial District in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana. The petition of Rosette Williams, a widow residing in said Parish, respectfully represents that her husband John Williams, late of said parish, departed this life on or about the 32 [sic] day of September AD 1866 at his residence leaving her a widow in community and the following heirs to wit: Margaret N. Williams, daughter of decd. and petitioner; George R. Auld, minor grand child of George Ann Auld, now deceased, late wife of James W. Auld, all residents in said Parish and the children of Israel B. Williams, late of the State of Alabama, a son of the deceased and petitioner, also an Estate consisting of real and personal property all community property between deceased and petitioner. Petitioner prays that an Inventory and Appraisement may be had according to law and that she may be appointed Administratrix of the said Estate and for such other orders and decrees in the premises as may be necessary. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union It is ordered and decreed that the within application of rosette Williams to be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of john Williams, Decd. be advertised according to law. It is further ordered that William C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public be and he is authorized to make an Inventory and Appraisement of all the property belonging to the said Estate and due return thereof make to this office according to law. Done and signed in office this 27th day of September AD 1866. J. W. Reid Clerk, District Court State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union I, Rosette Williams, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on me as Administratrix of the Estate of John Williams, deceased according to the best of my ability and understanding. Slayton District Court State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union Whereas, Rosette Williams has been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of John Williams, deceased and she has given bond with good security and has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore, the said Rosetta Williams is duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the acts appertaining to said appointment according to Law. H. Henry as securities are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable J. D. Watkins, Judge of the eleventh Judicial District Court in and for Union Parish, La. for the time being or to his successors in office in the just and full sum of four thousand nine hundred and 16/100 Dollars to the true and full payment thereof we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, Administrators and legal representatives firmly and in solido by these presents. Dated at Farmerville, La. on the 9th day of October AD 1866. The condition of this obligation is such that whereas the said Rosetta Williams has been duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Administratrix of the Estate of John Williams, deceased and she has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore, if the said Rosetta Williams shall faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on her as Administratrix of the said Estate and shall render to the Judge of said court a true and correct account of all his acts and doings in and about said Estate and when legally required so to do pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property belonging to the said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same. The Petition of Rosetta Williams, Administrator of the Estate of John Williams, Decd. respectfully represents that the said estate consists in part of stock and other personal property subject to waste and loss and deterioration and which is not producing any unreadable] and expensive to keep. She therefore prays that the personal property of said estate may be sold. She prays that the said property may be sold in a credit till the first day of march next for all sums over ten Dollars and for all sums of Ten Dollars and less for cash. Petitioner prays that the Sheriff of said parish be ordered [unreadable] the said sale and for such other orders and decrees as may be necessary. H. Regenburg, Atty. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union It is ordered that the prayer of the Petitioner be granted that all the personal property belonging to the estate of John Williams, decd. be sold as in accordance with Articles 990 & 991 & 992 code of Practice. It is further ordered that W. W. Guthrie Sheriff of the Parish aforesaid make the said sale and due return thereof make to this office. Done and signed in office this 24th day of October AD 1866. J. W. Reid Clerk, District Court In obedience to an order of sale in the case of John Williams, deceased, issued by the Honorable 11th Judicial District Court by J. W. Reid, Clerk of said Court for Union parish, State of Louisiana and to me Wesley W. Guthrie sheriff of said Parish and State directed and bearing date 24th day of October 1866, I proceeded to advertise all the moveable property belonging by posting the same at the Court House door in Union Parish and causing the same to be written in the Union Record, a newspaper published in the said Parish by Tompkins & Lewis for more than fifteen days. Terms of sale all sums under ten Dollars cash & all over ten Dollars a credit until 1st march 1867. When on the day of sale to wit 16th November 1866, I did proceed to the late domicil of John Williams, Decd. and made said sale which resulted as follows. The proceeds which I turned over to the widow Mrs. R. Williams.
