Died on or about July, 1874. According the census records Lewis Henderson was probably born in the state of South Carolina. The first record I was able to find for Lewis Henderson was in Clarke County, Alabama when he married Nancy Cox on the fifth day of april, eighteen hundred seventeen. His Dec- laration of Soldier for Pension from the War of 1812 stated that he married Nancy Cox in the Mississippi Territory in 1818. His discharge was lost but he had been at Mobile at the time of the Battle of New Orleans. At age fifty four, he stated in court that he had been a private in the Company of Thomas Delaney, 2nd. Regt. West Tennessee Militia On 20th. Sept. 1814 he was mustered in at Fayetteville, Lincoln County, Tennessee for a term of six months. He was discharged between the 20th. day of March and the 10th. day of April, 1815 in Mobile. One Lewis Henderson was living in Perry County, Alabama when the 1830 census was taken. NANCY COX According to census records, she was born in the state of Georgia about 1799. She died before 18 Jan. 1871 when Lewis Henderson married Mrs. Nancy Hodge in Union Parish, Louisiana. According to the marriage license of Lewis Henderson to Nancy Cox they were married at the home of her father, Thomas Cox. His will shows in part: " I, Thomas Cox of the state of Ala. and County of Clarke make this my last will and testament. First, To my beloved wife, Polly Cox, I give and bequeath the quarter section of land whereon I now live during her life- time in order that the children may be raised. At her death the land above is to be equally divided between my three sons: LEWIS COX, RICHMOND COX, AND THOMAS COX. Last the whole of my estate, except the land, the heifers, hogs, the cow and calf and their increase, the bed and furniture and rifle gun, to be equally divided at the death of my beloved wife POLLY COX amongst all my children, namely: 1. Mrs. Elizabeth Lowery 2. Mrs. Leah Lowery 3. MRS. NANCY HENDERSON 4. Lewis Cox 5. Richmond Cox 6. Rachel Cox 7. Mary Cox 8. Rebecca Cox 9. Barbary Cox 10. Thomas Cox 11. Susan Graham 12. Grace Griffin Executors were Matthew Cox and Samuel E. Frierson. Signed Thomas (X) Cox in 1821 in the presence of Lewis (X) Gordon, Thomas (X) Hinton and George (X) Welch." THE GRANDFATHER OF NANCY COX HENDERSON was George Vaughan whose will can be found in Franklin Co. Ga. 1817. His wife is sown as Darchus. Children listed were: 1. Henrich Vaughan 2. Mrs. Rebecca Vaughan Williams Executors: John Vaughan and Benjamin Vaughan Witnesses: James Smith and Enoch Brady HOW LEWIS HENDERSON WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN THE CREATION OF UNION PARISH, LA. Sept. 4, 1843 Lewis Henderson was appointed commissioner to lay out a direct route from Farmerville to Mr. Long's "settlement" in Claiborne Parish, La. to intersect the Claiborne line at the corner between Sections six and seven, Twp. 21 Range 3, West. June 3, 1845 having the hands of Lewis Henderson, Willis Austin, James Austin & Widow Austin one John Boatright was overseer on the Farmerville-Claiborne Road from Corney Bayou to Lick Branch. Moses Pearson, Soloman Feazle and Lewis Henderson were appointed commissioners from Election district four for the year 1846. Dec. 16, 1845: Jesse Fuller, J. C. Mayes and Lewis Henderson were appointed election commissioners for elections to be held at the residence of Jesse F. Fuller. John Feazle, William H. Culbertson and John Smith were appointed election commissioners to be held at the old George Feazle reside In 1867 Louis Henderson was postmaster at Shiloh In Union Parish, Louisiana. MRS. NANCY HODGE HENDERSON After the death of Lewis Henderson, she remarried to James P. Wilson on the 28th. day of March, 1879. She is interred in an unmarked grave in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. She and Mr. Wilson seperated before 5 May, 1886 when she deeded him forty acres of land for money he had loaned her. In the 1900 census of Union Parish, La. she was born Aug. 1831, had ten children but only two were living; David Hodge born ca 1846 and J. C. Hodge born about 1859. There were no children born between Mrs. Nancy Hodge and Lewis Henderson. CHILDREN OF NANCY COX AND LEWIS HENDERSON According to the probate of Lewis Henderson in Union Parish, La. he and Nancy Cox were the parents of: 1. Lewis G. Henderson born ca 1822 and died in March of 1860. He married Jane Feazel, a daughter of Christiana Ferguson and John O. Feazel. 2. Mary Henderson born ca 1823 in Ala. and was the third wife of David Redden who was born ca 1805 in S.C. Mary died on or about the 23rd. day of May, 1882. After her death, Mr. Redden married again. 3. Louisa Henderson born ca 1823 in Ala. On or about Feb. 1843, she married Willis Austin in Union Parish, La. Her name was shown as Louizer. She died before her father's estate was settled in 1878. Her heirs were living in Texas. Willis died ca 1816 in Miss. He was a son of Joannah Ferguson and Richard Austin. 4. FLORA ISABELLA HENDERSON was born ca 1826 in the state of Alabama. She was twice married. First to Lewis Feazel ca 1825 a son of Christiana Ferguson and John O. Feazel. the second marriage was to W. K. Carr.Flora died on or about 29 May, 1869 in Union Parish, La. Lewis was the father of her children. 5. Jesse Henderson was deceased by 1878 and left heirs in Texas. There is a marriage record in Union Parish, La. for one Jesse Henderson to July Ann Hart dated 2 June, 1844. Perhaps a reader can fill in the gaps on this family. 6. Nancy Henderson was born ca 1834 in Ala. She married Mr. _____Austin, and left two minor heirs who were living in Texas in 1878. Perhaps a reader can furnish the name of her spouse and children. 7. Rebecca Henderson was born ca 1837 in the state of Alabama. She died ca 1874 in Union Parish, La. She was married but one known time to Benjamin Franklin Feazel, a son of Mary Ann Clarissa Wise and Michael Feazel. After Rebecca's death, he remarried and moved to Texas to Mrs. Amanda Mulvina Fitzsallie McClain Tidwell. 8. Marion Henderson was a resident of Texas in 1878. The compiler has wondered if he is the same child as James Henderson. There was a James Henderson living with Nancy Cox and Lewis Henderson in the 1850 Union Parish, La. census. # # #
