Hamilton was born May 20, 1889 in Downsville, La. He passed away December 8, 1968. He graduated from LSU, Baton Rouge, in 1913, receiving a degree in Agriculture after paying his own college expenses, starting in his freshman year. While attending LSU, he was a catcher on the varsity baseball team. He lived to attend his fiftieth class reunion. After leaving LSU, he went to the Normal College in Natchitoches to design a dairy and build a dairy herd. He had previously helped to design the old dairy on Carrolton Avenue in New Orleans, but had nothing to do with the milk bottle shaped water tower. He loved his fellowman, but the love of his life was Allie Mae Wells. They were married in the home of her parents in El Dorado, Arkansas. After more than fifty years of marriage, he still endearingly called her sweetheart. A planter of farmer in North Louisiana, he was small in stature but strong in his mind and spirit. A very industrious man, he cared for the needs of many in the community during the depression. His example of honesty and hard work influenced many. He liked to play as well. He knew good horses, good dogs, wild game of every species; and he was an excellent woodsman. Like his mother before, he was an active member of the Alabama Presbyterian Church in Sibley, Louisiana. He and Allie Mae had three children, James Edward, known as many as "Red", Fredna Louise, and William Henry, known as Billy. His grandchildren called him Pop. His nieces and nephews called Uncle Fred, but some lovingly called him Uncle son. He had twenty-three descendants. His first great grandchild, Eddie Guice, was the first fifth generation descendant of James Meriwether Hamilton. Bradley Barkley began our sixth generation. Fred Hamilton left his family a rich heritage in the things that contribute to a good life. OBIT--RUSTON DAILY LEADER, December 9, 1968 MR. HAMILTON OF DOWNSVILLE DIES SUNDAY Mr. Fred S.
