According to the 1850 and 1860 census record, Lewis was probably born about 1825 in La. He was the eldest son of Christiana Ferguson and John O. Feazel. He died on the 20th. day of March, 1864 leaving a large estate. The census show his occupation as a blacksmith. Flora was also born about 1825 in Ala. the daughter of Nancy Cox and Lewis Henderson. On the 10th. day of April, 1868 in Union Parish, Louisiana family members arranged for a marriage between the widow Flora Feazel and William K. Carr. It was not a happy marriage and apparently one that was never consumated according to Suit 122-D #2371 which was filed in Union Parish, La. that same year; W.K. Carr vs Flora Carr. This was a seven page document. The reason he was seeking a divorce was on the grounds that each time he tried to enter her domicle, Flora would fill him full of buckshot. Flora died on the 29th. day of May, 1869. Needless to say there were no children born to Flora and Mr. Carr. The Children of Flora & Lewis Feazel 1. Acording to the 1850 census record there was a child named Benjamin Feazel who was born about 1847 in La. He had apparently died before the 1860 census. 2. James Feazel born about 1848 in Union Parish, La. and was not listed in the 1860 census. 3. Catherine Feazel born about 1856 but was not listed as an heir when her father died in 1864. 4. William Feazel was born about 1858 and was not an heir when his father died in 1864. Petition filed 28 Mar. 1878 Recorded in Book "AA" on pages 233 & 234 reads in part State of Louisiana............A. I. Feazel et als vs W. B. Wimberly, Admin. Parish of Union................To the Honorable Judge of the 11th. Judical court in the area of said parish proves the following heirs of Flora and Lewis Feazel, deceased. The petition of Americus . Feazel and John L. Feazel and Nancy C. Feazel and Mary A. Feazel, wife of Joseph Shaw who joins his said wife in the suit and authorized her to bring and prosecute the same & stand in judgement - and Americus I. Feazel in his capacity as tutor to the minors Benjamin M. Feazel, Rebecca B.M. Feazel and Amanda F. I. Feazel, he heaving been appoingted legally appointed and qualified guardian of minors, all residents of Union Parish, Louisiana. The petitioners together with the said minors are the legitimate and only children of Mrs. Flora I. Carr deceased and Lewis Feazel deceased, who were both residents of Union Parish, La. This document goes on to read in part: The said Flora Carr also left a sizeable estate in her own right . John O. Feazel who was a resident of Union Parish, La. was legally appointed and qualified as administrator of the estate of Flora Feazel, decd. John Feazel sold properties belonging to the decedents. The lawful and legitimate heirs of Lewis Feazel and Flora Carr never received rightful share of their parents estate. Petitions further represent that William B. WImberly who is a resident of Union Parish, Louisiana had been appointed and qualified to administer the estate at the death of John O. Feazel. He (Wimberly) refused to acknowledge as allowed petitioners said claim on the estate. James A. Ramsey was the attorney for the petitioners. In 1942 this case was still pending in the supreme case. The heirs of Flora Henderson Carr and Lewis Feazel never received anything from the properties and holdings due them by law. The Children and heirs of Flora & Lewis Feazel should have been: 1. Jane Feazel, the eldest daughter. Little is known about Jane. She was listed as an heir to her grandfather, John O. Feazel's estate in 1877. By 1879 her name had been crossed out. 2. John Lewis "Dick" Feazel was born about 1850 and died about 1890 in Ark. 3. Americus Independence "Sam" Feazel was born about 1851 in Union Parish, La. and was deceased before 1880. He married Callie Leggett, a daughter of Julia Pipes and Samuel Parum Leggett. When the 1880 census was taken, she was a widow living in the home of her father. 4. Mary Ann "Molly" Feazel was born ca 185_and died in Union Parish, La. She was married but one known time to Joseph Shaw, Jr. a son of Caroloine Lynn and Joseph Shaw, Sr. of Shiloh. When Joe Shaw, Jr. was accidently shot by his best friend, Jim Rea, while turkey hunting, his obit shows Mary as a widow with six children: He was pre-deceased by two. To the union of Mary and Joe there was born: James Alexander, Alice, Eula Lee, Aggie, Vice, Martha, Jeffie & Jodie Shaw. 5. Nancy Christine Feazel was born on or about 26 Dec. 1853 and died in August of 1905. She was married but one known time to Joseph Sutton. They were the parents of five children: John Willie, Jessie Eugene, Joseph M., Jr., Gussie and Charles Sutton. 6. Benjamin McCullough Feazel was born about 1861 in Union Parish, Louisiana. He died on or about the 27th. day of July, 1917 in Union Parish never having married. He is buried in the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery located near Bernice, Louisiana. 7. Rebecca Belmira "Belle" Feazel was born on or about 9 Jan. 1863 in Union Pa, La. She died on the 22nd. day of April, 1935. She was twice married. Her first marriage was to Dave H. Redden on May 11, 1881 in Union Parish, La. According to a judgement filed 19 Feb. 1884 they were the parents of a daughter, Vanda Frank Redden. She was born about 1882/3 and died about 1886. Suite # 2817 ruled in favor of Mrs. Belle Redden. According to an article written by the late Elliott Rab Whitman (sic: Coleman Crosby) in the Morning Paper, Dave H. Redden died about 1889. Her second mariage was to M. Allen Gresham on the 3rd. day of Sept. 1891 in Union Parish, La. He was born in the state of Alabama on or about the 23rd. day of May, 1864. He died 17 Jan. 1853 and is buried next to his wife, Belle Feazel Redden Gresham, in the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery. To the union of Belle and Allen Gresham there was born eight children: Tiny Belle, Lillie Eugene, Parker Beasley, Alice Cornelia, Ben Allen, William Thornton, Newton Cortez and Ruby Cecil. Ben Gresham is the father of the compiler of this sketch. 8. Amanda Frances Isabella Feazel was born after her father's death in 1864. She died in Union Parish, La. before the 1900 census was taken and is also buried in the Evergreen Baptist Church cemetery next to her husband, Luke R. Rea. Luke Rea was a son of Margaret Edwards and Theopholiust H. Rea. He was born in Bibb County, Ala. in 1857 and died between 1916 and 1917. ........................... Lewis Feazel owned slaves at his death when the inventory was filed in 1864. They were worth about seventy two hundred dollars. 1. Henry was 26 years old, dark complexioned, worth $1700. 2. Jenny was 22 years old, yellow complexioned, worth $1000. 3. Surry was 23 years old, yellow color worth $1500. 4. Harriet was 34 years old and black complexioned. 5. Lizzie was five years old and black complexioned. 6. Alfred's age was not given but he was black complexioned. 7. Infant eight month old girl who was black complexioned. These slaves were purchased from John G. Sanders for $2000.00. 8. Hannah was born 20 Feb. 1855. She and Lizzie were purchased from John G. Sanders and were worth $1000.00.
