D. Turner of Linville brought to our office last Thursday an interesting old relic which he has treasured up for all these years. It is an old letter, written May 16, 1851. Here it is in full: "Union Parish, May 16, 1851." "Dear Brother and Sister: I take my pen in hand to write you a few lines and you will learn by the same that we are well. I received yours of the 2nd of this month on yesterday and was sorry to hear that the children had the whooping cough and that Mary was in bad health, but glad to hear that they are on the mend. Some three weeks ago I sent $12.50 to James Carson by Solomon Feazel, and if you have not got it yet you can get it by going to Farmerville. Aulds has not paid that little mite yet. I would be glad to come and see you and I thought of coming some time last week if the bayou had not got in the way, and now for the next two weeks I shall be confined - one week in the cotton patch and by that time my wheat will be ready to cut. You spoke of going up the Mississippi and wondered if I can or could fix up my business so that you could attend to it. You would do so. Well if you go I would be glad to do so, and I'll come over as soon as I can, and if you should get ready to go before I come over, I would be glad that you come over and see me before we start. You must write as soon as you get this. Give my love and respect to sister Mary and the children and receive the same. Yours with respect, D. B. Acree." ################################################################################### Comments: The author of this letter was Daniel Bowman Acree (c1818 - 1860), and the letter was written to his brother-in-law, James Madison Turner, the husband of Acree's sister Mary Jane Acree (1824-1886).
