This letter was mailed to Sherry Gritzbaugh in 1969 from Olin Feazell of DeKalb, Texas. Olin was a descendant of Benjamin Franklin Feazel. Sherry descended from a sister, Wilhelmenia Ann Feazel, who married John E. Thomas. Gilbert Lafayette is referred to as Fait in the letter. It was written by Mitchell Feazel of Farmerville, Louisiana. The last paragraph refers to Susan C. This would probably be their sister, Susan Feazel Craighead. Clarissa may have been Clarissa Clara Feazel Tidwell. --------------------------------------------- Farmerville, La. Oct. 11, 1882 Dear Brothers, I seat myself this evening to drop you a fue lines to let you hear from me. I, myself am not well. I am just getting up from the spell of fever in the last month. The rest is up. I hope these lines find you all well. I saw in your letter that you wanted to know something about your cows and land. There is no demand for land yet. I had one offer for the tract near Dave Reding but the man wanted it for about two and one half or three dollars a acor. I asked him five and he backed out. Yours and Faits cows I sold last spring. Irvin came down last winter and sold me his too and I sold your two and Faits two for twenty dollars cash. I have the money hear and I will do as you and Fait ses with it. Rite to me and tell me what to do with it. Crops is tolerble good. Cotton is very good. I think I will make six or seven bales. I will make plenty of corn to do me. So nothing more. Rite soon. Things are getting on tolerable well with the railroad. The last accord I've had six, convicks at work on it. Have you seen the comit yet? If you have not, git up before day and look in the east and you will see it. Farmerville burnt the 28th. of August. It taken fire before day and burnt every business down except Stines and one grocery. The most of them has built new, and open these new stores. Some people are phosofising that there will be another war because there is so many boy babys. Cousin Nan Child had two boy babys a little over two weeks old.
