Smith Residents of Farmerville, Union Parish Louisiana ================================================================================== ================================================================================== Nov. 8, 1872 Farmerville, Union Parish, LA Dear Buddie, I received your letter on the 5th interesting and would have answered it sooner, but I was waiting to hear who was elected. We will not know until tonight but if I do not answer it this evening I will not have a chance until next Saturday. Aunt Jennie (Virginia Manning Lott) is here now but she expects to go home tomorrow if nothing happens. Uncle Sam [Samuel Smith] was here today and I asked him to let cousin Lon (?) and Callie come here to the Show, and he said that "they were talking about coming." Today was Florence's [Florence Smith] birthday and she has been playing and laughing nearly all day. She went to town with Mr. Lott this evening, but she has come home. I was glad to hear that you had not received a demerit since you commenced school. I will write two or three letters every night for school. Have you received the letters that Belle and I wrote to you? Aunt Anna [Anna Manning] is still here. Grand ma and Grandpa [Manning?] left here yesterday evening. Your Sister. Mollie Smith Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Smith (don't know what V. stands for) P. S. Buddie, I wrote this letter for school and thought that I would copy it off, but as I have to put it in the office this eve please excuse me. I have heard more about the election since I commenced this letter. Pa beat Mr. Henry 1400 majority. Mr. Lee beat Mr. Edwards about 600. I heard that Mr. Lee and Miss Vada was going to marry tonight. Ma has written to you twice since she received your last letter and said she would write today but Uncle Crawford [Manning] and I were going to write. I would write a longer letter but I have not time. Write Soon. Your Sister. Mollie Smith ###################################################################
