Smith, all of Union Parish LA Residents of Farmerville, Union Parish Louisiana ================================================================================== ================================================================================== November 25, 1872 Farmerville, LA Dear Jimmie, I received your welcome letter last week. From the date it was some time reaching me. I would have answered you sooner than now but for the want of stamps I have so long delayed. I was very glad to hear from your letter that you were better pleased. Hope you will continue to be so. Jimmie, my news of importance is limited. You wished me to let you know in my letter to you how your Pa [William C. Smith] stood the election. He came out alright. I suppose you have heard all concerning the election, therefore, I will say no more about it. Your Ma [Elizabeth. A. Manning Smith] went over to see us last Saturday and came home on Sunday evening. I came back with her. If nothing prevents, I will remain this week. Ma [Elizabeth Bailey Hall Manning] has been very sick, but she is up now and seems to be doing very well. Anna [Anna Agnes Manning] has not improved much. She has gone home know. Buddie, I hope you have been well all the while so you would be able to study hard. Do your best. I know you can learn now in this time while you are young and have parents to assist you. Your Grandma [Elizabeth B. H. Manning] and Grandpa [James Clark Manning] were both glad to hear how well you was doing. When I return home, I will write again to you. Your Ma [Elizabeth Amy Manning Smith] says she will write about the middle of the week. Says she has written twice since she received any. She says for you to write to your Aunt Anna [Anna A. Manning] if you have not. She is now at Downsville. Buddie, Vada and John Lee married the 17th of this month. There has been several marriages recently. Willie [William Allen Smith] and little Florence [Florence Eleanor Smith) are both well. They talk about you often. Little Florence can talk very plain and as pretty as ever. Your Ma says if you hear of smallpox for you to be vaccinated immediately if you think you will be in danger of catching it. As I have no more news, I will close. Buddie, strive to excel in every one of your classes. We will be proud of you when you return in knowing what a good boy you have been since you left us. Answer this soon if you can. Your Aunt Jennie [Virginia Manning] ########################################################################
