Smith Residents of Farmerville, Union Parish Louisiana ================================================================================== ================================================================================== Dec. 14, 1872 Farmerville, Union Parish, LA Dear Brother, As I have not written to you in several days I will try tonight. Ma wrote to you yesterday and sent you hers and Willie's photograph, but Florence would not have hers taken. I will you mine as soon as I have it taken; I was going to have it taken today, but it was too cloudy. Buddie, Della beat me one mark last month and she received the prize, but I am twelve ahead this month. We are going to have an exhibition, on the 23rd inst. and a Christmas tree on the 24th. Stella's Pa has moved to Marion. She went to see them last Saturday and stayed until Thursday. Mr. George Powell married several weeks ago, but his wife just returned home last Sunday. Miss Nannie was here last week and she said, that she would come back and spend Christmas, if she could get anyone to come with her. She said that she wanted you to send her that other picture. When I received you picture I carried it to the schoolhouse and you have no idea how Della, Jennie, and Nannie Sternberger took on over it. One day while I was studying my lesson, Della gave me a piece of paper, and told me not to let anyone see it. I wrote to Aunt Jennie [Virginia Manning] this evening and I am going to write to Lizzie tonight. Writ to us every chance you get. Receive this letter with a kiss. Your Sister. M. E. V. Smith Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Smith (don't know what V. stands for) #################################################################
