From the Probate Court Minutes 1861-1863 Jefferson County, Alabama @ Birmingham The final decree in final account for GEORGE L. BAYLESS Estate of December 19, 1863, show the nine heirs of Legatees who under the will of said decedent take equal Shares in Said estate to wit, (1) Lucas Bayles (2) Elbert Bayles (3) Washington Bayless (4) PARTHENIA BAGWELL (5) Elizabeth Taylor (6) Mary Cobb (7) William Montgomery (8) Jane Bass (9) Nancy Lasiter (10) Susan Childers (11) Margaret Turner (12) Aletha Danniel & (13) Bethania Childress. It is unknown to the compiler who the Mother of Parthenia Bayless Bagwell was. She was not the daughter of the second wife, Mrs.Martha Montgomery. The book Bayles by Margaret Ellis Sepello in 1994 on page 88 also lists the name of the children named in George's will: Lucas, PARTHENIA, Elbert H., George Washington, Elizabeth, Mary, Margaret, Aletha and Bartham Bayless. They were nine legitimate heirs. Mrs. Martha Montgomery was the Mother of four children who were also named in the will of George Bayles. George L. Bayless (1776-1857) George L. Bayless is proven to be the son of Reuben Bayles according to the indenture mad the seventh day of February in the thirtieth year of American Independence and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and six between Reuben Bayless of the State of Tennessee & County Of Washington of the one part and GEORGE BAYLES of the State & County afore- said SON of said REUBEN BAYLESS. Signed Feb. Session, 1806 State of Tennessee Washington County This Addendum also listed a son, Daniel L. and a son, John Bayles. Reuben married 1775 in Loudon Co. Va. possibly a daughter of George Lucas. (Unproven.) Margaret Lucas Bayless (1751-1828) Ruben Bayless (1754-1826) Washington Co. Tennessee According to the Bayles book, Ms. Sepello has referenced the bible record of Johannah Lake and Daniel Bayless Jr. Daniel (1716-1736) Johannah (1714- ) Children listed were: Daniel , Phebe, Martina, Abigail, John, Elias, Samuel, REUBEN BAYLESS and Hezekiah. Daniel Bayless (1683-ca1752) died in Kingston, Hunterdon Co., NJ. Married Sarah Ludlum ca March 1751. They were said to be the parents of three known children: Daniel Bayless, Jr., Samuel Bayless, and John Bayless. Daniel Bayless was a son of Ruth Rusco (ca 1645- ) daughter of Esther Hurst and William Rusco, (son of Ian Rusco). Ruth Rusco and John Bayless Jr. were married ca 12 Mar. 1665 in Jamaica, Long Island, NY. John Bayless Jr. (1642-1665). They were the parents of Samuel, John, Elias, DANIEL BAYLESS SR, who md. 1st. Sarah Ludlum and 2nd. Elizabeth Waters. Ruth and John Bayless Jr. also had a daughter Sarah who married John Lake. JohnBayles, Jr. was a son of John Bayles ca 1617 in England, Wales. He was the emigrant ancestor who sailed for Boston in 1635 and arrived on board the Truelove de London. He md. Rebecca Stillwell ca 1641. He died in 1682 in Jamaica, Long Island, New York. John Bayless Sr. was a candidate for Magistrate in January, 1662. He applied for and received a license to keep a tavern and restaurant in March 1662. Three days later, he was selected with two other men to look after the procuring of a minister. In dec. 1663 he was voted a delegate to a meeting of Town Deputies. There is more. The offices he ran for and the ones he was elected to says a great deal about his stature in the community. John Bayless Jr. was a son of This document is on file in Washington County, Tennessee. It is an ADDENDUM. It begans "This Indenture........................ I have already quoted you the rest which named his son George Bayles. It was signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Henry Green and David Deadrick. On the right was Reuben Bayles (Seal) Washington Co. Feb. Sessions, 1806.
