He was probably closely related to Abraham Pipes, likely his son or nephew. Abraham Pipes had served in the Louisiana militia during the War of 1812. The Pipes lived south of Bayou D'Arbonne in what is now Lincoln Parish, settling there quite early. William Pipes made numerous land purchases in the area that now straddles the Union/Lincoln Parish line, including most of the region surrounding the community of D'Arbonne on Louisiana Highway #33 from Farmerville to Ruston. He owned property in what is now both parishes, but was then only in Union. #2 Although I have found no documentation of such, it appears that William Pipes lived in the center of a small community that was known as 'Pipesville'. By 1860, he was certainly one of the wealthiest men of the region. He most likely established the Pipesville Post Office near his primary residence, which by all appearances was on the spot of the modern community of D'Arbonne on Louisiana Highway #33, just a about 0.2 miles from the Lincoln Parish line in Section 33, Township 33 North, Range 1 West. #3 Based upon the above, it appears that the Post Offices of Pipesville and D'Arbonne (established on 22 March 1880) were in the same exact location. ###########################################################
