Smith, 8 Nov 1880 - 14 Feb 1882 [Office discontinued on 15 Feb 1882, with mail forwarded to Ouachita City.] ================================================================================== COMMENTS: Port Union was located in Section 3, Township 19 North, Range 3 East on the Ouachita River near Parker's Landing. It is just downriver from the mouth of Bayou D'Loutre. By the 1860s, it was already an important landing for farmers who lived along Bayou Loutre east of Farmerville. They apparently shipped their cotton to Port Union, where it was stored in warehouses for shipment to New Orleans to be sold. All that remains today is an abandoned cemetery. ###########################################################
