DESCRIPTION OF WARD FOUR, UNION PARISH LOUISIANA

Since the 1860s, Ward Four has consisted of the western portion of Union Parish, 
including the second largest settlements of the parish. During the 1800s this was 
the Town of Shiloh, but with the fire that destroyed Shiloh in 1899 and the arrival 
of the railroad a few miles west, the western business center quickly shifted to 
Bernice.

Western Boundary of Ward Four:
   ++ Claiborne Parish line


Eastern Boundary of Ward Four: 
   ++ western boundary of Ward One


Southern Boundary of Ward Four:
   ++ 1860 - 1873: Jackson Parish line. Between 1845 and the creation of Lincoln 
                   Parish in 1873, the southwestern boundary of Union Parish 
                   extended further than it does today. 

   ++ 1873 - present: Lincoln Parish line


Southeastern Boundary of Ward Four:
   ++ 1860s - 1880s: boundary of Ward Five

   ++ 1880s - mid-1900s: boundary of Ward Nine (the old Ward Nine running from 
                         Farmerville to the southern boundary of Union Parish)

   ++ mid-1900s - present: boundary of Ward Five


Northern Boundary of Ward Four:
   ++ 1860s - mid-1900s: southern boundary of Ward Three

   ++ mid-1900s - present: when the police jury moved Ward Nine from south of 
                  Farmerville to northwestern Union Parish, the northern boundary 
                  of Ward Four became the southern boundaries of Wards Nine and Three
