They created Wards Seven, Eight, and Nine taking portions of Wards Two and Five. Ward Nine is one of the most confusing wards, as its range between the 1880s and 1930s is totally disjoint from its modern boundaries. When originally created in the latter 1870s or early 1880s, Ward Nine extended from west of Farmerville south to the Lincoln Parish line. Today, Ward Nine runs north/south along the Claiborne Parish line. Description of Ward Nine: ++ 1870s/1880s - mid-1900s: During this period, Ward Nine basically included the thirty-six square mile region known technically as Township 20 North, Range 1 West, together with additional area on the north side of the square region bounded by the Middle Prong of Bayou D'Arbonne and the main Bayou D'Arbonne. When the police jury abolished this Ward Nine in the mid-1900s, it divided the region back between Wards Four and Five. The dividing line was basically the path of the modern Highway 33 that runs from Farmerville southwest towards Ruston. ++ mid-1900s - present: From the latter 1800s, Ward Ten had included the Union Parish portion of Junction City and the old Randolph community. The police jury abolished Ward Ten and designated Ward Nine to include southeastern Junction City, Randolph, as well as the Town of Lillie that had previously been in Ward Three. Also, Ward Nine now extended south to include the Union/Claiborne Parish border from Junction City to a point due west of Bernice. ============================================================================================ ============================================================================================ Sources: Union Parish Police Jury Records Union Parish Federal Censuses and Enumerator's Explanations ###########################################################
