Originally, between 1839 and 1860, this was in the extreme southern portion of the parish, along Bayou D'Arbonne and over to what is now Downsville. However, the population center shifted with the growth of the parish seat of Farmerville in the 1840s and 1850s, casuing the police jury to redraw the ward lines in about 1860 or 1861. Since that time, Ward One has included Farmerville and the surrounding region, the geographical center of the parish. Between 1860 and the mid-1900s, on its eastern side, Ward One extended north to Bayou D'Loutre and south to Bayou D'Arbonne. As people ceased to earn their living primarily by farming and moved to town, the population of Farmerville increased considerably. To keep equal representation on the police jury, they have redrawn the ward lines periodically. As a result, Ward One has shrunk in size from what it was in the 1860s. It now only includes the Town of Farmerville and a very small region around it. ============================================================================================ ============================================================================================ Sources: Union Parish Police Jury Records Union Parish Federal Censuses and Enumerator's Explanations ###########################################################
