Northern Boundary of Ward Six: ++ Arkansas/Louisiana State Line Southern Boundary of Ward Six: ++ has alternated over the years between the boundaries of Wards One, Two, and Three, depending on how the police jury has set the boundaries of those other wards Eastern Boundary of Ward Six: ++ Ward Two boundary line Western Boundary of Ward Six: ++ Ward Three boundary line The first post office to open within Ward Six was that of Union Cross Roads, established on 7 May 1852 with Rev. George Everett serving as the first postmaster. Everett had established the Springhill Baptist Church in 1849 soon after he arrived from Perry County Alabama. He had apparently wanted to give the name of "Springhill" to his post office also, but that name was assigned one week earlier to an office in eastern Union Parish. Since the 1860 census called Everett's post office "Springhill", it may be that the locals referred to it as "Springhill" for a while, even though this was technically not the name for that post office. In 1874 the post office name changed from "Union Cross Roads" to "Oakland". More recent communities in Ward Six are Truxno, Conway, and Meridian. The Ward Six boundaries also included portions of the Cherry Ridge and Sadie communities. ============================================================================================ ============================================================================================ Sources: Union Parish Police Jury Records Union Parish Federal Censuses and Enumerator's Explanations ###########################################################
