Article from the 'Ouachita Telegraph'

Captain George W. McCranie founded the 'Weekly Telegraph' in Monroe, Ouachita Parish 
beginning in September 1865. In mid-December, he decided to change the name to the 
"Ouachita Telegraph'. The paper continued publication until and the 1890s or later.

Col. C. H. Morrison -- This gentleman, once Speaker of the Louisiana House of 
Representatives and Colonel of the gallent 31st La. regiment, and whose return has been 
so anxiously look for by a host of friends, has at last resumed his wonted place in our 
community as genial and good looking as in days auld lang syne. We tender him the 
hospitalities of our sanctum as an acknowledgment of our regard for a former brother 
and neighbor.

Note: 
Colonel Charles H. Morrison was not a resident of Union Parish. However, during the 
War Between the States, he commanded the 31st Louisiana Infantry Regiment, Confederate 
States Army. Thus, he was a well-known figure to Union Parish citizens, for over four 
hundred men from the parish served under Colonel Morrison in the 31st Regiment.
