B. Smith last Saturday morning. It's a fine girl baby. ================================================================================== Deputy Sheriff John W. Taylor was able to be up on our streets again Saturday, after an illness of a few weeks. ================================================================================== If any one wanted a rainy night and was not satisfied with Monday's record, they certainly are hard to please. ================================================================================== Capt. O. Baughman has purchased the steamer Rosa B. and will continue to run her in the D'Arbonne and Bartholomew trade. ================================================================================== Mr. C. T. Simmons, of Marion, was in town Monday. He says there is considerable cotton to be gathered in his section. ================================================================================== Efforts are being made to get up an entertainment soon, with the view of raising funds to purchase an organ for the Farmerville school. ================================================================================== Dr. C. H. Laurence was in Farmerville Monday, making arrangements to locate here. He expects to move the early part of next week. ================================================================================== Program. _______ The following is the program of the fifth Sunday meeting of the Concord Baptist Association to convene with Fellowship church, Lincoln parish, La., on Saturday, January 28, 1899, at 9:30 a.m.: 1. What course should a church pursue with a member who refuses, or neglects, to attend church services, or to contribute to the support of the gospel? Assigned to Bro. John M. White and Eld. L. N. Holmes. 2. What should be the attitude of Baptists toward the Mormon elders? Assigned to Bro. A. H. Colvin, Sr., and Eld. J. C. Jones. 3. What is the baptism of the Holy Ghost, and should we pray for it? Assigned to Elders C. H. Baley and T. N. Rhymes. 4. Introductory sermon at 11:30 a.m., by Eld. T. N. Rhymes; alternate Wm. Cooksey. 5. Subject laid over from last meeting: Duties of the church to her pastor, and pastor's duty to his church. Assigned to Bros. R. J. Tabor, T. J. Ford, and John D. Hamilton. 6. How far should a church member go in sin and folly before being disciplined by the church? Assigned to Bros. B. F. Grafton, T. J. Cole and N. J. Belton. The program for Sunday's exercises will be arranged on Saturday by a committee to be appointed for that purpose. Notice is hereby given, that if this meeting should fail to convene on date named above on account of bad weather, Fellowship church will still hold the appointment for the next fifth Sunday thereafter, and this will be the programme for the same. Beck, Committee. ================================================================================== The following citizens of Union parish - ex-Confederate soldiers - have been awarded pensions by the State Board of Pensions of Louisiana: Rev. Henry Archer J. J. Britton J. A. Meeks J. J. Auld, Sr. J. W. Auld Dan Tucker J. R. Shultz J. A. Dean and Stephen Beaird The monthly amount each receives ranges from three to five dollars. There are doubtless others who have been granted pensions, but we have not been favored with their names. ================================================================================== Rev. H. B. Thomason, the new pastor of the Farmerville circuit of the Methodist church, with his family, arrived in town last week, and are now comfortably settled in the Methodist parsonage. Mr. Thomason requests us to state that he will fill the appointments as fixed by Mr. Lowrey, his predecessor, until further notice.
