R. Love of Union Parish Louisiana From the Albany, New York "Evening Journal", issue of 20 June 1851 and the New Orleans "Times Picayune" issue of 9 June 1851 ================================================================================== ================================================================================== Hanged — The slave Duncan, owned by R. R. Love, of Union parish, Louisiana, was tried on the 24th ult. for assaulting his master with a dangerous weapon and inflicting upon him severe wounds. The evidence being conclusively against him, he was convicted and was to have been hanged last Friday — [N.O. Delta, June 10th]. ================================================================================== ================================================================================== NOTE by T. D. Hudson: Duncan's owner was undoubtedly Royal Kolb Love of Marion. Presumably the newspaper had Love's middle initial incorrect. Love was born on 14 January 1814 in Chester District South Carolina and died on2 3 July 1891, buried in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery near Linville, Union Parish Louisiana. They married on 14 July 1841. In 1850, Love owned two male adult slaves, one of was which was likely Duncan. One was 24 and the other 55. ############################################################# File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/union/newspapers/articles/1851slave-hanged.txt
