The Farmerville, Union Parish, Record says: “From what we have been able to gather from conversation among the people, during the past week, there appears to be considerable excitement relative to emigration to Brazil, and men speak of leaving the country of their forefathers where they have been nurtured and raised, as if it were but a day’s journey. Many of the old as well as the young have the Brazilian fever; and they are in earnest. For ourselves we had rather bear the ills we have than fly to those we know not of.” The Record man is wise. If his neighbors really wish to emigrate to Brazil, they can buy out the other Louisiana emigrants, cheap. ================================================================================== ================================================================================== 1867 Lightning Storm Hits Union Parish Courthouse in Farmerville, Louisiana From the New Orleans "Times Picayune", issue of 10 July 1867 ================================================================================== ================================================================================== Louisiana _______ The Farmersville (Union parish) Record, of the 6th mentions the riving, by lightning, of three stalwart trees standing near the Court House, during a thunder storm. ############################################################# File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/union/newspapers/articles/1867union-record.txt
