T. Parish. Capt E. T. Sellers and Miss Sarah A., the daughter of Capt. Thos [sic - this is a mistake, it should be Charles] W. and Mrs. M. A. Hodge, all of Union Parish. Capt. Sellers and his fair bride have our most hearty congratulations. May wedded bliss be no dream with them, but an everyday reality. ================================================================================= NOTE: Elisha T. Sellers was the son of Thomas Sellers, whereas his wife, Sarah, was the daughter of Charles W. Hodge. It appears that the editor of this Monroe paper confused the father of the groom with the father of the bride. Hodge had initially served in Company I, 12th Regiment Louisiana Infantry during the War Between the States. Hodge was elected captain of the company at Camp Moore and served until January 1862, when he resigned and returned home. Elisha Sellers had initially been elected as 2nd lieutenant of the company. Upon Hodge's resignation, Sellers was promoted to captain. When the regiment underwent re-organization on 10 May 1862, Sellers was not re-elected as captain, and at that time he returned to his position as 2nd lieutenant. Captain Hodge returned to Union Parish after his resignation in early 1862, but he apparently went to work immediately recruiting to form another company from the area. His second unit became Company G, 31st Regiment Louisiana Infantry. He served with the unit through the Vicksburg Campaign of Nov 1862 - July 1863, and returned to service in north/central Louisiana afterwards. Hodge resigned his commission on 10 October 1864. Hodge was a Methodist minister and served various churches in southern Union Parish and that region. Sellers later served in various political capacities, including several terms in the Louisiana Legislature, including both the House of Representatives and Senate. He was also a delegate to the 1898 Louisiana Constitution Convention. ###############################################################################
