[Farmerville Record, 2d.] We learn from gentlemen residing at Ouachita City, that a most unprovoked murder was committed three miles from that place, on the Farmerville road, about dusk on the evening of Christmas day, and that no clue has been obtained as to the assassin. Mr. John Thomas, a quiet, inoffensive citizen, was called to his door and shot without warning. The family state that some one came to the gate and called for Mr. Thomas, who, asking the name of the person, was informed that it was John Bullen, a well known negro of the vicinity, and that he had a letter for Mr. T. Upon going toward the gate, followed by a little boy, he was fired upon from behind the fence and instantly killed. The family, fearing further harm, immediately left the house by a back door, and just after reaching a road near the side of the house were passed by a white man, on horseback in full gallop, with a gun in his hand. The man was not identified, but we understand that suspicion is strong against a person whose name we are unable to learn. ############################################################# File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/union/newspapers/articles/1874thomas.txt
