Bethel Springs is a new post-office just established in Union Parish with J. P. Huff 
postmaster.  This place was formerly known as Spearsville, and is now headquarters 
for Greenback men.

NOTE by T. D. Hudson:
"Records of Appointment of Postmasters" indicates that the Bethel Springs Post 
Office officially opened on 4 December 1877 with James B. Huff as postmaster. 
He served until 18 February 1879, when Alfred J. Ward took over. On June 4
of that year, the name changed to "Ward's Mill" and it was relocated to 
Claiborne Parish.
