NOTE: The Greenbacks were a political group active between 1874 and 1884. They 
advocated against the United States government changing the monetary system from 
paper back to specie as it had been prior to the War Between the States. The 
Greenbacks had a strong influence on the 1880 elections, but they declined 
rapidly after 1884. Greenback adherents became strong supporters of the Populist 
Party in the 1890s.

Glad Tidings! Indications of Great Progress Throughout the Country. 

Louisiana.

BETHEL SPRINGS, Union Parish—The good cause seems to be gaining followers very 
rapidly in this section of country at present.  At Spearsville, in this parish, 
last Saturday, a very enthusiastic meeting was held, and a Greenback club was 
formed with 25 charter members.  Getting ready for 1880.  God speed this Heaven
