A Sad Tragedy. Monday evening the usually quiet and peaceable town of Marion was the scene of another deplorable tragedy. C.J. Payne and J.J. Loper, both well known citizens of our parish, became involved in a quarrel, resulting in the latter fatally shooting the former with a rifle. The ball entered the side and penetrated through the body, causing death in a few minutes. We cannot get full particulars, but learn that the difficulty grew out of an old grudge, and that the parties had quarreled frequently during the day. This sad affair is the more deplorable on account of the relationship of the parties - they being brothers-in-law. The deceased leaves a wife and several dependent children. The reports concerning this sad affair are conflicting, and as the matter will be the subject of judicial investigation we withhold comment. But we must say that such tragic deeds are becoming entirely too common in our parish. # # #
