We, the citizens of Shiloh ward, in mass meeting assembled, in view of the enormity to which crime and lawlessness is pervading our parish, and the consequent draft upon the treasury of an already impoverished people in prosecuting the violators of the law, to seemingly no purpose; and realizing that the security of one's person, property and liberty can only be maintained by a strict observance and enforcement of the laws of our country; we believe that extraordinary efforts should be made to effect a change for that; hitherto we have had too much leniency and condonement for criminals. We therefore join hands with our Marion neighbors in their determination to stamp out crime of every class, and we pledge ourselves to be more vigilant in discovering crime, and more active in our efforts to aid the officials of our parish to bring the guilty to a realization that law and order must prevail. We heartily endorse the change in our jury system, through which we can more confidently expect a just and fair verdict. We have borne the expenses and witnessed the farcical [sic] trials by "packed" juries to our eternal disgust. The following named parties endorsed the above and were member of the meeting: [Signed] J. D. McElhaney J. A. Hammock T. H. Rea J. M. Harris A. S. Coplen J. A. Gordon H. J. McClung J. E. Mabry T. H.
