When the Smoke Cleared off Three Men Were Dead. Monroe, La., April 15 – Yesterday afternoon, Henry Gulledge and J. O. Johnson, both of whom live in Union Parish, came to Monroe on business. After getting through with it they drank freely, and set out to paint the town red, visited Ruby Bells, fired their pistols at the furniture and moved out. Policemen Haynie and Bigger say Gulledge and Johnson on the street and started toward them. Gulledge drew his pistol and when ordered to put it up fired at Haynie. Seventeen shots were fired and when the smoke cleared away it was found that both policemen, Haynie and Gulledge were killed.
