Hon. E. T. Sellers was made temporary chairman and Jno. P. Odom secretary. The following committee on credentials was appointed: Benj. Taylor, J. W. Montgomery, C. T. Simmons, G. The following committee was appointed on nominations: R. B. Dawkins, C. T. Simmons, J. R. Killgore, W. H. Hamilton, M. R. Carey and G. E. Murphy. The committee made the following report. We your committee on nominations beg leave to submit the following report: We suggest that there be sent 14 delegates from this parish to the state convention to cast the vote of this parish, and we recommend the following named gentlemen for delegates: J. M. Smith, B. F. Pleasant, J. P. Smith, Dr. O. H. Thompson, Dr. P. A. Tatum, C. D. Fredericks, J. W. Heard, W. F. Grafton, J. M. Wade, Abe Stein, Dr. J. M. Hamilton, E. T. Sellers, Jas. A. Manning and R. B. Dawkins. We recommend for members at large on the Parish Democratic Executive Committee, Dr. C. H. Jameson, O. O. Clark and J. W. Heard and we suggest to the committee that Dr. Jameson be made chairman thereof, and as committeeman for ward two we recommend Mr. Francis Malone. Respectfully, R. B. DAWKINS, Chairman M. F. CAREY, G. E. MURPHY, C. T. SIMMONS, J. R. KILLGORE, W. H. HAMILTON. The following committee on resolutions was appointed, J. M. Smith, J. W. Montgomery, Dr. O. H. Thompson, G. M. Moore, W. A. Odom. Committee reported as follows: To the chairman and members of the convention, we your committee on resolutions beg to submit the following report: The Democratic Party of Union parish in convention assembled do hereby reaffirm our faithfull [sic] allegiance to the basic principles of Democracy as enunciated by Jefferson and crystallized by Jackson and we most heartily endorse and subscribe to our National platform as adopted at Chicago in 1896 as the true exposition of Democracy. We cordially endorse the administration of Gov. Murphy J. Foster as being wise, economic, honest and patriotic and assume as one of the best in the history of this State, and especially do we approve and endorse the record of old Union’s worthy and distinguished son, Hon. W. W. Heard, State Auditor, and note with great pleasure the desire expressed by many that he be our next governor. Be it resolved that we most heartily endorse the candidacy of Hon. W. W. Heard for governor and herewith present his name to the Democracy of this State as a man whose private character is stainless and whose public record in every position he has been called upon to fill is above reproach, whose highest ambition has been to fulfill every trust and faithfully discharge his every duty to his country and people, whose every act can be defended on the highest plane of morality and good government. Be it further resolved that should he be chosen as our standard bearer in the coming campaign, the party will present to the people a candidate in whom they can repose every confidence as a safe, wise and conservative leader and whose every purpose and effort will be for the betterment of his State and her people. It is further resolved that the delegates from this parish to the State convention, to be held at Baton Rouge on Dec. 20, 1899, be instructed to cast the seven votes of this parish for W. W. Heard for governor as long as his name shall be before said convention and that on all questions, and nominations coming before the State convention the delegates present shall cast the full vote of this parish as a unit, the majority present controlling and no proxies be allowed.
