The shooting occurred at the Cox ferry, about two miles from town. The boys had been hunting and were returning home when the fatal accident happened. On learning of the affair Dr. Taylor immediately investigated the affair, rendering a decision of accidental homicide. It developed in the evidence that Jim Wilburn started to shoot a bird and when the gun was near the position to shoot it accidenetally fired, killing Amos Cobb, who was directly in front of the gun. The whole load of squirrel shot struck him square in the face tearing out his right eye and penetrating his brain. Death resulted instantly. ================================================================================== ================================================================================== File posted at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/union/newspapers/articles/1901homicide.txt #################################################################################
