Caldwell of Bernice, Union Parish Louisiana From the "Morning News", a newspaper published in Dallas, Texas Issue of 15 December 1902 ================================================================================== ================================================================================== THREE NEW PLAYERS SIGNED BY DALLAS GIANTS J. L. Caldwell, pitcher, lives at Bernice, La. Last season he was with Ardmore in the Texas-Oklahoma League. He was purchased from Ardmore on the recommendation of Catcher Foley White, who caught for Wichita Falls last season. Tony Thebe also has played in the league with Caldwell and recommends him highly. Caldwell is 21 years old, stands six feet one inch and weight 185 pounds. He is said to have a lot of smoke and is touted as a coming youngster. Charles Foster, pitcher, of Cleveland, Ohio, was signed by Scout Charles Baumgartner. He is said to be of the most promising young pitchers ever turned out of Cleveland and those who have seen him work say he is big league caliber. Scout Baumgartner said Foster is the best looking young pitcher he has ever found and predicts a bright future for him. Foster is 22 years old, weights 175 pounds and is five feet eight inches high. J. C. Dooley, catcher, is also from Cleveland and was signed by Baumgartner. He weights 168 pounds, and is five feet eleven and one-half inches tall.
