News reached Farmerville Friday morning of a serious shooting and cutting affray which occurred in "Nip and Tuck," about twelve miles east of here, Thursday night, in which one man was killed and three others seriously wounded. From the best that we could gather of the affair there was a party in progress at the residence of Mr. Taylor Nolan and, during the course of the merry-making, two of the young men fell out and a fight ensued. During the fight several others took sides, knives and pistols were drawn and the serious side of the trouble began. The man that was killed, Zack Nolan, was shot five times in different parts of the body, and died almost instantly. The wounded are: Archer Nolan, cut in side; Selma Nolan, cut in side, and Luther Nolan, shot through the chest. Besides those who were hurt there were others, we understand, who took part in the fight. All of the participants were relatives, they all belonging to the Nolan family of that section, which is, probably, the largest family in the parish. ================================================================================= Farmerville "Gazette" issue of Wednesday, 5 October 1910 ================================================================================== The case of the State against Archer Nolan, under an inditement of manslaughter for the killing of Zack Nolan last March, was tried in the district court last Wednesday. The jury was in the box for a few minutes and came out with a verdict of not guilty. The evidence brought out during the trial made a clear case of self-defense for the young man. ###########################################################
