W. J. (Tate) Grafton Third to Die This Year From Attack of Highwayman. No clue has been discovered as to the person who fatally slugged W. J. (Tate) Grafton in front of 2509 Live Oak Street Saturday at midnight. Grafton died yesterday morning at the City Hospital without regaining consciousness. His was the third death in Dallas this year as a result of blows delivered by highwaymen. Frank Colbath was slugged to death Feb. 12 on Race Street and William Humphreys was beaten to death in his store at Lisbon on April 6. Grafton was on his way to his home, 2519 Live Oak Street, Saturday night when he was attacked. J. J. Cozens, who lives in the house in front of which the attack took place, was awakened by the blows and looked out of a front window as the highwayman disappeared. He was unable to say whether the man was white or black. Grafton was a carpenter. He is survived by his mother Mrs. M. M. Grafton of Vernon, La. and one brother W. O. Grafton of Bernice, La. who is en route to Dallas to take charge of the body. The body is being held at George W.
