                              MAYOR IS ARRESTED
               Louisiana Man Charged With Killing Sheriff’s Nephew

Monroe, La., Dec 23—Mayor G. C. Payne of Marion, La., charged with the killing 
yesterday of Stancil Westbrook, nephew of the sheriff of Union parish, will be 
given a preliminary hearing tomorrow morning.  Mayor Payne is in jail at Farmerville.
He declares, according to authorities that he shot Westbrook when the latter advanced 
on him with a knife.
