H. Howard of Rocky Branch, in the eastern section of the parish, reported to us Saturday morning a strange thing. Mr. Howard said that with other workmen, were drilling water wells on what is commonly known as the Port Union plantation in the Ouachita River about thirty days ago when they unearthed knots of wood, pecans and sweet gum burrs forty-six feet under ground. The wood was tubular gum and all seemed to be in perfect state of preservation, Mr. Howard said. ##########################################################
