At Byram's station in Hinds County, on the New Orleans railroad, Mr. John Wise, a volunteer belonging to Capt. Hicks' "Independent Rangers" from Union Parish, La. To his friends at home, and to his brave comrades in camp, we are authorized to say that though he died away from home, he had all the attention of a skillful physician, and many kind and sympathizing hands administered to his wants until he was borne to 'that bourne from whence no traveler' returns." ================================================================================== ================================================================================== NOTE by T. D. Hudson: John D. Wise enlisted in Company E, 12th Regiment Louisiana Infantry on 18 August 1861 at Camp Moore.
