N. Ferguson, Shiloh, Union Parish Louisiana From the Monroe "Ouachita Telegraph"; issue of Saturday, 24 December 1887, page 2, column 3 ================================================================================== ================================================================================== Mr. Furgerson Assassinated. FARMERVILLE, Dec. 17. - [Special.] - Mr. J.N. Ferguson, constable of the Eighth Ward, Union Parish, was assassinated in the public road between Farmerville and Shiloh on the evening of the 16th, about sundown. His body was found by some citizens, the head being really shot away. The wadding of the gun was paper that was used and printed by the Gazette of our parish and was lying near the body of the deceased. Mr. Ferguson had been at Stein's Bluff making some collections. He had on his person about $16, and this was not disturbed, which would show that the killing was not for the purpose of robbery. An investigation is being made, but there are few circumstances which would lead any one to fix a suspicion. No arrests have been made. J. STEIN. ================================================================================== NOTE: This murder remained unsolved until 1898, when Mr. S. D. Nutt managed to identify the culprits, have them brought to trial, convicted, and sentenced to life in the Louisiana penitentiary. ######################################################################
