Mayo, Union Parish Louisiana Published in the Farmerville "Gazette", issue of Wednesday, 18 April 1894, page 3 ================================================================================== ================================================================================== Mrs. M. M. Mayo, who lived a short distance from town, after a lingering illness of several months, died Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock at her home and was buried in the Farmerville cemetery Friday evening. Mrs. Mayo was a christian lady and leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Aged 66 years. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Mary M. Mayo was the wife of farmer and attorney Frederick E. Mayo. Since this paper was published on Wednesday, "last Thursday" puts Mrs. Mayo's death as occurring on 12 April 1894. Her sons Peyton Wilds Mayo (31 Mar 1865 - 26 June 1917) and Frederick E. Mayo, Jr. (8 Mar 1861 - 24 June 1913) was buried in the Farmerville Cemetery, but there were no markers for Mary or her husband Frederick. I have no record of Mary M. Mayo's maiden name. In 1850, her future husband Frederick E. Mayo lived in West Feliciana Parish, where he worked as an attorney. In 1860, Mary, her husband Frederick, and their children lived near Bastrop in Morehouse Parish, where they farmed. Living with them was Mary Ann Mason, a young woman who would later marry Thomas C. Lewis, III of Farmerville. Mary M. Mayo and her husband Frederick lived in Farmerville in 1870, where he worked as a lawyer and lived next to Union Parish Thomas C. Lewis, Union Parish newspaper editor and later the parish judge. Fred was born in Kentucky in about 1817, but Mary was a native of Louisiana, born about 1827. By 1880, Mary and Frederick lived outside Farmerville and farmed. #################################################################################
