Smith, the wife of Mr. James M. Smith, passed away from all earthly visions, breathing her last at the home of her husband in this town, surrounded by grief-stricken relatives and friends. More than a year ago Mrs. Smith was attacked with grippe, and the cold she contracted settled upon her lungs, and gave her that dreaded of all diseases consumption. From the beginning of her sickness she had at her bedside the most skillful physicians and the kindest and most attentive nurses, but her health continuing to decline, she was carried to Southwestern Texas, where it was supposed the pure air of that climate, supplemented with the skill of eminent physicians, would restore her to robust health. After remaining in that section for several months, and continuing to decline, she returned home and has been confined to her bed ever since, growing weaker all the time. Mrs. Smith was born in 1861 and in 1885 was happily married to Mr. James M. Smith, the faithful and efficient clerk of the court of this parish. She was a consistent member of the Baptist church and was prominent in all charitable and benevolent movements. The poor and needy were never turned from her door hungry and wanting. She was truly a christian lady and her loss will be keenly felt not only in her family and church, but in this community. She leaves a husband and two little children to mourn her departure, and to them the Gazette tenders its words of deepest sympathy. Her remains were interred in the cemetery at this place Monday evening after impressive funeral services, conducted by Rev. O. M. Lucas, at the Baptist church. ################################################
